During the "big dump" of snow we received this past week here in the North Country, Donna MacIntosh set a 12 inch ruler out on her deck to measure how much was accumulating there in Baraga. You can see in her first shot that the initial measurement was just above 7 inches. Then the next morning, she could barely see the ruler, so it was already over a foot by then. I'm not sure what the time span was for the next photo, but Donna said it was between 13 - 14 inches at that point. That's a whole bunch of snow in a short time.

In Donna's last two photos you see the bigger picture out on her deck, where she feeds all the critters. She said there were two red squirrels making those holes in the snow on her deck, so she decided to pour some seed in the holes for them. She said only one of them came out of the snow holes and was in and out of all those holes so fast, it was so excited with all the glorious food right there for the taking. Donna said she watched it for a half hour and it was entertainment at its finest. And what the squirrels didn't eat, the deer did. She said the snow on the back slab in the morning was all tore up! Cheap entertainment... I love it!

This was definitely not in the brochure. They portrayed dolphins and palm trees and...belugas.
Now there’s a funny word...belugas. Say that word three times without cracking a smile:-)

Dr. Nat and I miss feeding the "critters" this time year when we lived in Red Jacket. We too had a multitude of birds and animals; everything from squirrels and deer to several different bird species. All we get here in SE Texas at the feeders are doves which is why we quit.

Speaking of snow, just be glad you don't live near Buffalo, NY this morning. I talked with a friend who said she has just a dusting and can still see some grass in her front yard. But, just 10 miles south, they have over 7 feet!
