For a number of years now, the Keweenaw Historical Society has been organizing an annual Blessing of the Animals. This year's event took place at the Phoenix Church, with Father Corbin Eddy and Pastor Sue Church there to officiate. Dorothy Jamison was also there with camera in hand, to capture a few candid photos of the critters there to get blessed. She said there were 47 dogs, 2 cats and 2 skunks in attendance, some who have been coming for years and others that attended for their first time.

Hobey was one of the first timers this year, while Lucy made it there for her 8th time. Oreo the skunk and his mates have been longtime participants, with Sam there to get his 7th blessing. All four of these furry friends pictured seem to be laid back and calmly awaiting the Pastors to perform the Blessings from above, so they can go about the rest of the summer.

The jet-skiing doggie in the last photo wasn't up in Phoenix that day for the blessings, but she sure looks like she lives a charmed life, being driven around Portage Lake out in Bootjack by her human, Scott. Or is it the other way around and Daisy is really at the helm? Robert C. Wetton didn't say who was driving when he sent in the photo, but he did mention that the summer is quickly slipping away. So, I guess it's a good thing that Daisy is taking advantage of the good weather and is enjoying buzzing around the lake to cool off.

Animals are a Blessing! These are such cute pictures. The skunk may have a bit of a shedding issue, bad hair day.

Nice way to start my Saturday, and very nice pix!
Isn't Oreo the same little guy who hangs out at the Delaware mine?

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Saturday, August 9, 2014 - 11:02 am:

oreo hangs out behind the desk at the Delaware mine, has a bed back there, too.

If I see a skunk at the Pearly Gates, I'm gonna recommend a good eye, NOSE and throat doctor.

I love dogs, especially since the name is God spelled backwards,

Looks like the dog enjoys letting his master ride along with him.
