Happy Fathers Day! Since Dad gets to pick where we'll eat out, my choice is Crestview Resort at Eagle River. We can hop the train at Mohawk and make that winding journey up the peninsula along the tracks that someday will disappear, to be replaced by a snowmobile trail. (What on earth is a snowmobile?)

At Phoenix junction the train will veer left and chug up the rise to that panoramic view over the Lake, and a grand Pavilion where we can enjoy dinner and that lovely view at the same time. What better way to spend Father's Day!

In his excellent Copper Country Explorer Mike Forgrave declares (tongue-in-cheek) that Crestview is a myth. Well, it certainly is a legend, with very little left behind in that grassy knoll above Eagle River to suggest it ever existed. Thankfully the pictures and personal accounts help us reconstruct the reality which once was Crestview.

A year ago we revisited Crestview on a June Shoebox Memory, and I promised we would find a way to convert our Flash presentation into a conventional video, that could be viewed by non-flash devices like iPads. Today we keep that promise, with the Youtube version above, and also on Facebook.

We present it today in memory of our friend Clarence Monette, who inspired us to begin this daily journey on the web back in 1998. Along with his contributions on Crestview, my wife's research, and Keweenaw Video's production assistance, we collaborated on this Pasty Cameo back in 2008, when our Day in History series was just beginning.

Happy Fathers Day... and Have a good week :o)

What an awesome video! I must have missed that last
year. I so wish I could have seen that. What a
view that must have been, and the train ride alone
would have been priceless.

Thank you for sharing this with us and Happy
Father's Day to all of the wonderful dads out there,
as well as those in heaven!!

Happy Dad's Day, Charlie!

Crestview looked like a neat place to visit.

We have visited the Crestview site several times on 4-wheelers over the past few years. Looked like it was a beautiful place to visit back then. If you are into geocaching, I believe there are still one or two geocaches in that area, too.
