I'm always grateful to folks like Joy Ziemnick, who take the time to drive around our beautiful area, snapping photos to share. She made her way up to the most northern reaches for these shots recently.

The first photo was taken from the lookout on the way up Brockway Mountain. It's always a great spot for snapping photos of the town of Copper Harbor this time of year. The day Joy was UP there, the ice was still in the Harbor. From what I understand, depending on the wind, that ice comes and goes.

Joy also made a stop at the Manganese falls and were they ever flowing. It's amazing the power and force behind water like this. Next stop was at the top of Brockway Mountain, where Joy's husband and their dog, Diesel made the rounds, stretching their legs and taking in the view from all angles.

They finished up their day, with a stop at the Eagle Harbor beach. I love the photo Joy snapped there, how it shows the top of the ice floes and the portion that's under water, too. Here again, is one of those places where one day its filled up with ice and the next day the wind may have swept it out into the Big Lake again. The fascination with Lake Superior in all kinds of conditions continues on.

BONUS VIDEO: Our last reference yesterday was only to imagine what Eagle River Falls sounds like in the Spring. Charlie and Edie ran out and captured a bit of it for us!

Omgosh! That was so awesome! Thank you so much for
sharing. I'll be there in a couple of weeks, but a
lot of it will be gone in a couple of weeks. And I
just can't believe the ice chunks still in Lake
Superior. I doubt it will warm up this year.

Can I ask when these were taken?

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Thursday, May 22, 2014 - 08:15 am:

The video was taken this week, after the heavy
rain. By the look of the shoreline, I would guess
the Lake ice was photographed last weekend. Out our
window in Eagle River here this morning I see no
ice on the shore, but that's only a recent
development.

Awesome shots, Joy, and thank you for the video, Charlie. Every spring I keep an eye on the ice breakup all over the Great Lakes via webcams, MODIS satellite images, and GLSEA ice analyses. This sure has been a winter and spring to remember. I wonder if any part of Lake Superior will still have ice in June.

Love Copper Harbor! The video was a great treat!

Some really great photos today of the water and the ice. Manganese Falls looks like a slender ribbon of cold. Deb, our local weatherman said it is going to be a colder than normal summer for areas near Lake Superior. Given the amount of ice and the fact that it is lingering and lingering I don't think he really went out on a limb with that prediction.

Love the video of the falls….almost as good as being there!
Thank you ,Charlie.

Looks like a nice place to spend some peaceful time.

Very nice pics. An icy spring for Copper Harbor, and the Copper Country. Very cool video of the falls Charlie. Thank you. The Eagle Harbor/Copper Harbor area has always been a favorite place of mine to visit. (since I was a child), and continues on into the rest of life. Just beautiful!

By Joy Ziemnick (Sisugirl1) on Thursday, May 22, 2014 - 08:42 pm:

Thank you, Mary, Charlie, and all.
Deb S. - These were taken on Mother's Day (5/11).
Was a little tricky (still some higher, slushy snow) driving down to Copper Harbor from top of Brockway but a lot of snow has melted since then.

Thank you both Charlie and Joy for the info. Those
pictures, and that video were all wonderful!

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent! Thanks for bringing this technology to my computer screen.

...and the stills are great, too...especially Manganese Falls, which I have had the privilege of visiting.

Great pics. Hard to believe there's still some ice from the Winter still.

By MarilynnB (Marilynnb) on Friday, May 23, 2014 - 07:14 am:

Great video! We've never seen the falls so high before.
I love the shot of Diesel on Brockway. Maybe we'll bump into him
the next time we drive up to the Keweenaw from Munising.

Joy--Here's a group of sheepdog owners on FBook you might
enjoy. It's really fun to see them all over the world.

I have taken many photos from the turnout overlooking Copper Harbor but never with ice in the harbor. It is spectacular. I'd love to hang that shot above my computer and see it every day.
