Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Thursday, March 6, 2014 - 09:29 pm:

When Brenda Leigh and her hubby were in the Paradise area, they spotted a fox running and limping down the road, so they stopped to snap a few photos of him. That's when they realized he only had three legs. They talked to some people who live in the area and found out that this three-legged fox has been around there for about three years and the local folks have named him "Tripod".

He sure looks healthy otherwise and must be used to people around, since he didn't take off into the woods when Brenda got out to take the photos. In the second photo if you didn't know he was missing a leg, you wouldn't notice right away, since he's standing there so balanced and straight.

Curious as to the life span of a fox, I did some research and found that they average anywhere from 2 to 4 years in the wild, but longer in captivity. Sure hope his luck holds out and he continues on for a few more years.

When I first glanced at the first picture I thought it was a lynx and I didn't realize it only had three legs until I read it. The old eyes are starting to take sight seeing trips on their own.

Thanks, Brenda, for these precious photos!
I agree, Mary ~ hope he's around for a while!:>

The photos of the fox are great! It is amazing that
the little critter has survived for three years
while missing a leg.

All the pictures are great but, I can not get over those eyes in the last picture. I just keep staring at them.

Obviously a tough critter to get along with three legs.

Nice, healthy looking animal!

What a beautiful animal. The right place at the
right time for you, Brenda. Wish I'd have been
there! Thanks for sharing!

What a sight.

Sometimes when caught in a trap, an animal will chew off their leg in order to get out. I have seen deer legs stuck in our fences, tried to jump the fence and got caught and the leg snapped off. By the looks of his rich reddish color this guy is adapting very well with just 3 legs! A friend of mine years ago had a 3 legged dog, Spike out ran many 4 legged dogs!

I never knew - 2-4 yrs life span, wow! Not long @
all. This tripod must be quite the scrapper, being
the age it is!

Nice Photo's, I'd have to feed him to try and help him out!

What great pics! The opportunity to get photos like this is very rare. You can feel really special!

Beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing!

By Brenda Leigh (Brownmoose) on Friday, March 7, 2014 - 07:25 pm:

Wow thanks for posting these. I do feel honored to
have had this opportunity to photograph this
beautiful animal. We were in the right place at the
right time. My camera was right on my lap and Jim
was driving. This made a perfect opportunity to
catch him on camera. Thanks to all for the comments
and thanks to Mary for posting these.

What beautiful pictures! I'm an animal lover,
especially animals out in the wild. It kills me to
think this poor creature could of been caught in a
metal trap and chewed it's own leg off. I think
metal traps should be outlawed and if animals are
to be hunted, then do so in a humane way not in a
barbaric way. But none the less, what a beautiful
creature God has made. As someone stated above,
look into it's eyes....God bless!
