We have a few follow-up photos to the snowbanks you saw on Tuesday in Calumet. Only these shots were snapped in Ontonagon and Dollar Bay.

Frank Jezek sent in the top photo, of what he saw when they opened their front door after snowing and blowing all night. Good thing their door opens in and not out, or they would have had a hard time getting the door open I would say. Times like this it would be good to have a shovel inside the house, so you can shovel your way out the door.

The next two photos come from Melanie Hakala Rossi, looking out her front door after shoveling off the roof for the umpteenth time this winter. Ok, so I may have exaggerated on the amount of times her roof has been shoveled, but I know that folks have had to do so a number of times more than usual this year. It looks like one more time and Melanie won't be able to see out the front windows, either.

All this snow has been good for the Winter Carnival activities over at Michigan Tech, especially the statue building. Linda Schneller stopped and snapped a couple photos during the all-nighter on Wednesday. The temperature was extra chilly, somewhere around 0°, but even that didn't keep the students from finishing up their statues in time for judging on Thursday morning.

Hopefully, we'll have some photos of completed statues for the beginning of next week. If you get out to see them over the weekend, be sure to send some my way: mdrew@pasty.com. Thank you in advance! :->

Are we buried in snow this year or what????If we
shovel the sauna roof off again-we will be tossing
the snow upward!great pics of the white stuff!

With the exception of the last one, I have to say these are horrible pictures!! I say this because looking out my window, it's snowing on top of all the ice!! Enough awready!!!

Might almost compare to the Blizzard of '78. I wonder if the Keweenaw's record snowfall of 1978-79 will be surpassed this Winter.

By Daveofmohawk (Daveofmohawk) on Sunday, February 9, 2014 - 12:29 pm:

Thomas: I sure hope not; as of yesterday Keweenaw County was at 229.5-inches. A long way to go to the '78-79 record of 390 something but then there's a lot of winter left to go also.

Consider this: If Keweenaw County measures the same snowfall for the remainder of this season as it did in the same period last year, they'll hit 388.5", less than 2" short of the 1978-1970 record of 390.4"! A new record is still within reach.

With Superior frozen over, it will be a little harder to beat snow fall record. We will just have to wait and see what happens.
