"GOOD MORNING"

I like this new format of showing the pictures at once along with the slideshow. Can we still somehow access the pics from 1998?

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Saturday, January 18, 2014 - 08:05 am:

Thomas -

The daily pictures on the Pasty Cam began officially on March 1, 1998. While we had occasional shots throughout the winter of 1997-1998 (as we had since May of 1996), there was no 'daily' shot on this day in '98.

On March 1 this year when we begin year 17 of the Pasty Cam... there will be.

Love today's slideshow. Really some great pictures
here. But my personal favorite will always be
2003, 9th St. There's my grandma & grandpa's
house, right on the top left. Spent so many days
and nights in that house. And right across the
street is my childhood BF's house. Memories :-)

Often I think "this pic is the best". like almost every day. And today's are right up there. But as I was driving home about 4:30/5:00 from my busy day at Sterling, Il. I could hardly keep my eyes on the road. There was the most stunning sunset from miles I've ever seen!!! Now I've been a sky watcher all my life! But never saw anything like that one. There was a beam of sunlight shooting all the way up from the sun to the far reaches of the sky, thru layers of pink, purple and blue green. As an amateur painter I don't know if I'd be able to paint such stunning colors. And it lasted for miles! What I would have given for a simple little camera but the best would have been my KE1000 Pentex. And still never capture that creation. It will be in my eye's mind the rest of my life.

I know what you mean, Kay ~ no matter how much we mix paints we can never achieve what God does so well with His Paints!

Ahh, such memories today!

The old Phoenix store (1999): What a classic! The last time I was there, probably in the 1990s(?), it felt a bit like an old "продуктовый" (grocery store) in the Soviet Union decades ago, with a creaky old wooden floor, very dim lighting — perhaps a half dozen 25 watt light bulbs in the whole place — and overwhelmingly bare shelves bearing just a meager handful of lonesome items, such as a few cans of beans, or whatever. The antique glass front counter had a modest assortment of candy bars and snack items, and that huge, beautiful antique cash register! Is it still the same today?

Rick Anderson's aerial view of 9th Street, Lake Linden (2003) looks like a model railroad layout, such as Kevin Musser's Copper Range Railroad, circa 1923, or Chuck Pomazal's photos of the meticulously detailed Model Railroad at the Quincy Mine.

Such happy and perhaps bittersweet memories for you, Deb. I was
especially drawn to Jack Frost's work. I always have been.
