Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Thursday, January 23, 2014 - 08:48 am:

Sally Beaudette decided to go to her brother and sister-in-law's for coffee one morning recently, but she was only one of a number of visitors they had at their Bootjack home that day. I'm not sure how many were actually there, but I counted seven in the first photo.

By the looks of the other two photos, the four-legged visitors weren't shy at all, either, since they were close to the house and had their noses right in that feeder licking up as much of the bird seed as they could. I'm guessing that with the amount of snow we have here in the Keweenaw, they're glad to gobble up what they can find. I think the deer on the left, in that bottom photo is saying thank you for the morning snack, either that or it's pleading for them to fill it up again. ;)

Great photos! I would be in trouble with the wife because I would be feeding those deer so they make it through the winter!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Thursday, January 23, 2014 - 08:57 am:

Awww....so sad knowing how hard this terrible weather is on wild creatures ~ so hungry that deer will even eat birdseed.
Thanks, Sally, for the beautiful, but touching, photos.

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Thursday, January 23, 2014 - 08:58 am:

*make that FEEDING those deer.

Mary says: I did, Uncle Chuck. ;-)

Must be a tasty mixture of bird seed! Deer approved!

If there was a ever a photo definition of the "deer in the headlights" look, that last photo is it!!!

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner...the main course.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Thursday, January 23, 2014 - 12:47 pm:

This group looks like they are well fed (thanks to Sally's relatives)!

A couple years back we were shocked to look out and see a red fox eating the sunflower seeds which had fallen from our feeder. Chicken feed rather than the chickens!!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Thursday, January 23, 2014 - 02:31 pm:

Years ago when I was physically able to 'maintain' a birdfeeder, we often saw groundhogs and rabbits eating the seeds on the ground. So I guess birdseed is very nutritious for whatever creature consumes it.;>

By James W. Hird (Wvyooper) on Thursday, January 23, 2014 - 03:49 pm:

She is lucky that it is deer and not bear at the feeder. A bear has poorer table manners and would take the feeder down and tear it apart not just lick the seeds out.

By Steve Haagen (Radsrh) on Thursday, January 23, 2014 - 08:23 pm:

Shirley even when there is other food
sources available deer will still go after
birdseed. They must find it quite tasty
because they will empty ours even during the
summer.

By David C Cloutier (Dccloutier) on Thursday, January 23, 2014 - 10:05 pm:

I think the deer in the last photo is thinking something like "Hey! You in the house! We need more bird seed out here!"

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Thursday, January 23, 2014 - 10:24 pm:

here's looking at you deer.....

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Friday, January 24, 2014 - 04:18 am:

Oh, deer, deer, deer.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Friday, January 24, 2014 - 07:37 am:

Robert Deer Niro..."You talkin' to me?"

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Friday, January 24, 2014 - 11:48 am:

Steve, even I like sunflower seeds.;9

By FJL (Langoman) on Friday, January 24, 2014 - 12:55 pm:

The cols weather seems to bring out brain freeze... A lot of silly talk.:o)

By Tom (Tom) on Friday, January 24, 2014 - 01:27 pm:

Talk about cold weather, the schools in Brazos County, Texas, 50 miles south of Houston began 2 hours late due to sleet and slippery roads. That is really unusual on the Gulf. Delayed starts here in
Green Bay are not at all unusual.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, January 24, 2014 - 02:31 pm:

50 miles south of Houston sounds more like Brazoria County, Tom. Brazos County would be College Station to the NW of Houston. Either way, we all got slammed last night with ice (which is why I'm off today).

By Tom (Tom) on Friday, January 24, 2014 - 03:48 pm:

Got names mixed up. Brazoria. Son also a grad of
MTU.
