Yesterday we were on the eastern end of the U.P. to see the snowcover, today we head further west to check out what the snowflakes in the Baraga area are doing, compliments of Donna MacIntosh.

In her first shot, you can see the ice has begun to freeze up the lake. Before you know it, the ice fishing will commence on this portion of the Keweenaw Bay waters. Look at the bank of clouds hovering over the land mass there. I wonder if there's any frozen precipitation in them…

Next Donna takes us down Buckland Drive, which looks like it had just recently been plowed, so there was no problem driving along this way. What a pretty scene with a little snow sticking to the branches like that. The same can be said about Donna's third photo, too.

Her last shot was taken on US41 as you drive through Baraga. Again, check out that bank of clouds. Pretty, yet at the same time quite menacing looking. They look like they could swallow up the houses and trees, as they move closer. I don't think they did though, since Baraga hasn't been reported missing. ;-)

Love today's pics. That's where my mom was born. Wish I could visit more often.

Trying to visualize US41 in the last photo...I frequently stayed at the Best Western on the lake shore, but I think it is closed now. (Anyone know for sure?)

The hotel on the lakeshore is still open and thriving with its restaurant also. Isn't it called the Lakeshore?

The first picture is wonderful. Marsha & Alex, Baraga Lakeside Inn. My wife and I stayed there on our way to the 2011 Winter Carnival. Actually, we checked in on our way and then stayed the night on the way back after the fireworks. It was the closest room to Houghton we could get.
