We here at Pasty Central wish a Happy Veteran's Day to all the men and women serving presently, those who have served and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. It is because of these people and their unselfish service to our country, that we have the many freedoms we often take for granted in these United States.

When looking for photos to commemorate this day, I kept coming up empty handed, so yesterday when I was in the Houghton area, my husband suggested a stop at the Veteran's Park in Houghton and once we stopped there, I knew it was the perfect place to snap today's photos. My favorite though (the bottom photo), happened quite by accident. I was walking back to the vehicle, when I decided to snap just one more shot, getting the cannon and the Civil War Soldier statue in the same frame. Much to my surprise, in the background you can see the stars and stripes, along with the word FREEDOM, from the gas station located right behind the memorial park. What perfect symbolism this photo turned out to be.

Happy Veteran's Day!

Amen to what all of you have said!
We'd live in a sad country if it were not for all those brave ones who served.
God bless them all!

Already did my part for Veteran's Day; I took my Father (a 30+ year Army Vet) out for dinner when I visited last weekend. :-)

Great photos, and happy Veteran's Day to all U.S. veterans for
defending the U.S., and happy Remembrance Day to all of Canada's
military veterans for defending Canada.

Thank you, Mary! Before I even read your post, I made your final photo my background. As a Navy (peace-time) vet, I proudly flew my flag on my office door. I was told to remove it as it was not professional (this was on Flag Day). For all the lip service of thanks, not a single person stood up for me. Guess we're all too afraid of losing the job to quibble about a little thing like the flag. Just made it more special to me seeing your photos today. A very heartfelt thank you!!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Monday, November 11, 2013 - 05:48 pm:

I salute you and thank you, Karen!

My husband was a Navy vet. (1950s)

I attended a Remembrance Day program in Toronto today. Very
moving. As a Yank, I couldn't bring myself to sing "God Save the
Queen," and I was sure it wouldn't be a good idea to sing "My
Country 'tis of Thee" which has the same melody. In all other
respects, it was a respectful and beautiful event.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Monday, November 11, 2013 - 07:02 pm:

Actually, for those who lost people in the many wars, every day is a
Remembrance Day.
