Good Morning. We still have a high pressure area, holding in our wonderful weather. :-) Have to love our weather this week. It is just about perfect.

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Thursday, September 5, 2013 - 08:02 am:

It looks like Donna MacIntosh was out risking her life for the sake of the Pasty Cam recently. Just look how close up she seems to have gotten with these various insects, while they're getting a meal of nectar from the bright, yellow sunflowers here UP North. Have no fear though, Donna was using a macro lens and employed a bit of 'cropping' to bring the butterfly, wasp and bees right in close for us to examine, so she was actually pretty safe from getting stung…whew!

What a great way to study all three of these specimens and not worry about stings and things. Of course the butterfly wouldn't be after us, but trying to get this close to one, is nearly impossible, since it would have flitted off to another flower as soon as you started coming closer.

Then there's the wasp in Donna's fourth photo…at least I think that's a wasp. Possibly a Pollen Wasp, but I'm just not quite sure. Whatever it's called, there are some pretty neat designs on this fellow's back and intricate, fine lines in its wings. Amazing details!

And finally, Donna was able to capture two bees at once on the bold colored flowers. Then she focused in on one in particular to give us a look at the details that make up this buzzing critter, while it was hard at work, pollinating and feasting all at once.

Thanks for bringing nature right up to our noses, here on the Pasty Cam, Donna!

Wow...Nice detail!

By Donna (Donna) on Thursday, September 5, 2013 - 08:52 am:

Thank you! I never planted any...these are what
the birds/squirrels/chippies/and deer have planted
and placed all winter! :D And yes, macro and
cropping brings some awesome pics!

The sunflowers all went to seed, and I put the
seedheads up on the feeder pole holders....they
are plucked empty...the birds have been HAMMERING
those things! (just think...FRESH GARDEN
PRODUCE...don't we all LOVE that?)

God's creatures are simply amazing....

Do butterflies live past one season? The one in
the top picture...it's wings were really beat
up...so I just wondered...what happens to them in
the winters??

Have a Blessed day everyone!
