I know, you're going to say that the moon makes an appearance just about everywhere each night, but for some reason here in the Keweenaw it just stands out more. Paul and Nat Brandes, (a.k.a Capt. Paul and Dr. Nat), took some photos of the moon in a few different settings, showing the versatility of the 'man in the moon', since each and every shot exudes its own beauty, even though they're all so different from each other. Maybe that's part of the mystique of the moon, is that it can be the same each night, yet different, too.

The Keweenaw is like that, too... the same, yet different each time you're here. So when you're viewing the moon rising or setting over the Keweenaw and Lake Superior... well, it’s just hard to beat.

Anybody catch the Perseids meteors overnight?

I saw a couple of the shooting stars when I took Shadow out about 4:30 this morning. A bit of cloud cover made one of them look like lightning. I didn't even try to take a picture. See some notes I wrote back in 1999 about the Keweenaw Moon :o)

Peaceful pix! I tried to watch the meteor shower, but no luck. Too much city light, or to cloudy :-(

I especially like the photo second from the bottom.

We had clouds here last night and anyway, I think I was in bed by 9:30, lol!!

Great pictures Paul & Nat!! Are you guys still there enjoying the Copper Country??

"Shine on Harvest moon."
I never get tired of looking at the moon, so thanks, Capt. and Dr. Nat for these shots!

Looks like a romantic night in the moonlight.

What beautiful moon pics-especially the last one!

Missed the meteor shower; got up at 4am and opened the front door to see if it was too cloudy to see them. Just as i did the newspaper man was jogging up the driveway to put the paper in the door! 20 seconds later it would have scared both of us to death!

Charlie, I read your note, i suppose now it would be a blog ;-) amazing how far the Pasty Cam has come! I sure do miss sitting on the beach and watching the sunsets. I made it to the UP last week and saw three of the five great lakes in the process. What a blessing it was to be home again!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Monday, August 12, 2013 - 09:35 pm:

Awesome!! Thanks for using the photos that Nat said I had to jump out of the car and take.... ;-)

Unfortunately, we are not in the Keweenaw this evening to enjoy a moon sighting or the Perseids. We are currently in Blytheville, AR on our way back to the tropics. We had a very peaceful and relaxing time there, which is exactly what was needed after a very busy spring/summer. We already look forward to our next visit to one of the greatest places on the planet.
