Black flies aren't yet out in force this year. In which previous year does it appear they were?

Good Wednesday morning!
Looks like 1999 may have had a bumper crop....
Second Post
I remember that day like it was yesterday. Black flies so thick you couldn't breathe

Down our way we have plenty of mosquitoes but thankfully, no black flies! Must be terrible!

Those black flies can be horrific while sitting in the sand on the shores of Lake Superior. And they seem to be especially bad in Freda. Here we have ticks. My grandson came in with 13 of them last week. They creep me out. I can't stand them. We've picked 2 off the dog so far.

Love the slideshow. Great pictures!!

Have a great day!

Looks like someone just landed in that pic. Ground control to Major Tom. :-)

Here we are blessed with a bountiful crop of ticks, mosquitoes, gnats, and more ticks!

Fortunitely I only have one "Nat" to deal with, but I don't mind unless the Hawks beat Detroit tonight...... J

Black flies are slowly coming around in Ontonagon. They swarm your head, get under your sunglasses and try to get in your ears. I don't mind, it only lasts for a few weeks and the beauty of the UP makes up for a few bumps in the road.

On the other hand, the "ankle biters" that hover around the beaches when the south wind blows, are very annoying. I have heard them called, "friendly flies" because they "like" you. :)

Then, toward fall, we have the "cluster flies", aka, house fly, that try to get into your house.

But, it is still "God's Country" and we wouldn't trade it for any other place in the world.
