Donna MacIntosh has captured the sun in a few different settings here today, but all three show the brightness it shines with this time of year. After snowy days on end, when the sun shows itself it seems brighter than usual, mostly because we don’t see it that often during the winter months, I guess.

Donna's shots give off that brightness, first with it illuminating the Bishop Baraga statue overlooking Keweenaw Bay. The bright light off to the left in the photo, gives the scene a surreal kind of look, almost dreamlike.

Then the sunshine lights up the icicles forming on the entrance to the Baraga Post Office. I love the way Donna framed the American Flag in the scene, too.

Finally, Donna spotted the sun peaking through the trees, as it made the clouds seem even whiter against that deep blue sky. I was hoping that the clouds would be all the white we'll be seeing from the skies for awhile, but our forecast for the Keweenaw at least, is still saying a chance of snow this week. Winter isn't over 'til the last snowflake falls.

Nice photos Donna; simple, yet striking!
No no Mary, it's "Winter isn't over yet until the first snowbird arrives"..... ;-)

Your photos are splendid Donna. We still have some
winter left here in the U.P. and so glad you are
enjoying it!

The photos are so beautiful and also a good reminder ,in these sad times, that light can shine through any darkness.

What a beautiful photograph of the U.P.'s beloved Bishop Baraga.
I sure am looking forward to seeing these sights again (minus the
snow, I hope).

Well said, Jaby!

By Dan Kemp (Upkemper) on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 - 02:11 pm:

I was working at a golf course in the Florida Keys
when a guy by the last name of Baraga signed up for
golf. I told him I grew up not far from a County and
City by the same name. He said they were all named
for his direct relative, Bishop Baraga. The Bishop
was his great, great (a bunch) Uncle. Mr. Baraga
went on to say that he had the hand written
dictionary the Bishop translated the Iroquois
language into English. Wonder what that is worth. I
also understand that Bishop Baraga is on a path to
sainthood. Samll world.

Thanks everyone!

We do get beauty U.P. here...no matter what season, even if it does hang on way too long! (But it didn't get here till January...)...

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 - 06:19 pm:

So, Donna, I guess what you're saying is, it's making up for lost time.;)

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 - 07:34 pm:

Thanks for sharing that Dan. I own a copy of Father Baraga's
Dictionary of the Ojibway Language. I'm sure the original is worth
quite a lot of money, but in truth...it is priceless.
