It's that time of year when most "snowbirds" get ready to migrate or have already begun that journey. Mike Schneider captured a bluebird that needs to get on its way heading south or perhaps as already done so. I'm guessing the snow in the air in this photo might have convinced him to make that trip.

Then on another day, Mike captured this Chickadee, who is a real Yooper bird, because it sticks around with the rest of us UP North here. They are certainly fun little birds to watch as they flit back and forth from tree to feeder and back again and the song they sing is music to your ears.

I'm thankful for the birds of the forest that entertain with their antics and songs, along with people like Mike, who get out there and snap such wonderful photos to share with us all.

Would you believe that in all of my 77 years I have never seen a bluebird.:( But there are plenty of chickadees!:)

Nice pictures today! Other than a few Robins hanging on, most of our summer birds have left. I was once a Blue Bird back in grade school days. Then I became a Camp Fire girl.

I've not seen one either Shirley...but LOVE watching the chickadees and nuthatches coming through...Great Pics!

Oh, Janie, I was also a Blue Bird and a Camp Fire Girl when I was young. That experience fostered a love of camping in me. WoHeLo! :-)

We put up two bluebird houses in our yard a couple of years ago; lots of other birds have made nests in them, but so far no bluebirds. Maybe next spring! We do have plenty of sweet chickadees though. I enjoy watching them, too, and love their call.

When we lived in Red Jacket, we had lots of different birds, including bluebirds. Although I must admit, the chickadees were the clowns of the bird feeders. The other birds I fondly recall were the Common and Hoary Redpolls that used to invade our feeders during the winter months. Down here in the tropics we surely don't get the variety of birds we had UP north; mostly doves and grackles now......

Never seen a Blue Bird either, which I always thought were Blue Jays…until today, that is. Next you'll try to tell me that Cardinals aren't catholic.
