The snow fall began Monday afternoon here in the Keweenaw and the prediction had been for 3 to 7 inches. When all was said and done, here in Lake Linden, we had right around 4 inches or so. Joe Kirkish snapped a few photos of the snow around Hancock and the last shot was taken by our Bridge Cam, later in the day on Monday. At that point, it was snowing so hard that you couldn't even see the Lift Bridge in the scene, just some of the lights shining through the snow storm. By early evening, the snow had settled down and the visibility was once again back to normal.

The first few snowfalls here UP North, are always a little tricky for driving around. You have to re-learn how to maneuver, by slowing down and allowing more braking distance on the slippery ice and snow.
With the blanket of white on the ground, Old Man Winter has let us know he's back in town.

It's opening day of firearm deer season here in the U.P., so if you're going out in the woods from now until the end of the month, make sure you wear hunter's orange and are careful out there. Good luck and safe hunting!

Not a fan of snow, but these pictures are gorgeous!! I guess I don't mind the snow as much as the cold. The snow can be fun, the codd...not so much!!

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Thursday, November 15, 2012 - 08:04 am:

Good tracking conditions for UC. I hope Uncle Chuck becomes Uncle Buck (12-point, that is).
Good luck and be safe!

By Richard J. (Dick_fl) on Thursday, November 15, 2012 - 08:05 am:

Well said Mary. Good luck and safe hunting to all!

All I can say is brrrr! :<
I'm with you, Deb, snows are not so bad if we could have it with 50 degree temps. Dream on.

By Donna (Donna) on Thursday, November 15, 2012 - 08:27 am:

I watched my neighbor's new pup see her first snow the other day...she spun doughnuts in the back yard! LOL...it was pure bliss filled JOY for that little dog.....and it was such fun to watch and experience that!!

Yeppers...HAPPY HUNTING....and be safe!

That first snow gets the layers of oil and gas off the asphalt....and helps to make the roads extra slippery....so SLOW DOWN out there!

Welcome Winter....

Winter can be a fun time, you just have to make friends with it! Beautiful snow scenes today!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Thursday, November 15, 2012 - 09:35 am:

Janie, I've tried telling that to my 2 arthritic crippled legs but 'they' just won't listen.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, November 15, 2012 - 09:38 am:

I don't know Deb; I kind of like "codd" with a nice butter sauce.... ;-)

If it's one thing I do miss about living in the tropics, it's the change in seasons, including snow like in the photos. Here, we have three seasons: hot, hotter, and hurricane!!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, November 15, 2012 - 09:52 am:

Shirley, it's all about mind over matter. There is a guy who actively snowmobiles. He's paralyzed from the waist down. He truly is inspirational.

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Thursday, November 15, 2012 - 10:05 am:

Of course, being the U.P., weather changes from day to day...today it's actually sunny and almost 40° here in Lake Linden. You know what "they" say, if you don't like the weather here in the Copper Country, wait 5 minutes, it'll change. ;-)

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Thursday, November 15, 2012 - 10:31 am:

The fella you speak of is definitely inspirational, Janie. God bless him! In my case it's not so much the snow as it is the cold which only aggrevates the ever-present pain.
Maybe I should move to Texas.;)

I like how fresh / falling snow white washes. It does not make troubles go away but for me it does calm and let me take a deep breath.

By Bob Williams (Wabbit) on Thursday, November 15, 2012 - 11:09 am:

I like the snow, too. Until it is time to drive through rush hour traffic to and from work! lol

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Thursday, November 15, 2012 - 03:42 pm:

Wintry Autumn.

By Waveaction (Lakelover) on Thursday, November 15, 2012 - 04:04 pm:

Winter is fun time. There is nothing like that fresh, fallen, powder. Like Janie said; "You have to make friends with it."

We have made friends with it and it has become our friend.
