Even though Veteran's Day was really yesterday, there are a number of places that observe this day honoring those that serve or have served our country, today, such as the Post Office and some banks, to name a few. I'm guessing government offices will be closed, too, so you might want to call ahead before making a trip to any of those places today.

This first shot is the Veteran's memorial in the Lake Linden Park. The flag flies there year round, 'In honor of all those who served our country'. There's a stone at the foot of the flagpole that states those words, too. It's a great reminder for people enjoying our beautiful park, to be thankful for the freedoms we enjoy, because of the sacrifices of those who serve in the branches of our military.

The next photo is looking down the main street of Lake Linden, otherwise known as M26 or Calumet Street to the locals. Now that Range Bank has moved into the building on the left, as you enter town, the time and temperature are once again displayed, so we know if we're running late or if we need earmuffs and gloves to ward off the cold. Nice to see that lit up again.

In the third photo you can see the gazebo in the park. It's been there for a couple years now and really is a nice addition to the area. It's used for various events in the summer months, like the Farmer's Market and the 4th of July. The park here in town gets plenty of use, so it's rare to walk or drive by and not see someone making good use of the facilities.

Hope you enjoyed a brief glimpse of Lake Linden! The next time you see it, there will most likely be a blanket of white covering the ground. ;->

Old Glory always gives me a thrill!

Would like to say, 'Thank You' to all the family members who were and are left behind to carry on as thier loved ones are fighting for our (my) freedom, 'Thank You one and all.'

What a thrill to open the page and see my hometown there. And yes, Shirley, Old Glory gives me a thrill also. We were at a bowling tournament last weekend, and it's always been a practice to line up on the lanes to sing The Star Spangled Banner before we start. We didn't do that this time and yours truly went to the owners and complained. I told him that that's becoming part of what's wrong with our couontry. He apologized profusely and stated that it was an oversight. They'd done it the other weekends but somehow forgot that weekend. I was glad to hear that they do at least still do it.

Thanks to all of our veterans, past and present, living or dead, who've made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. You are appreciated!

Have a great day!

Shout-out to all the guys and gals that get it done!

Watched “Saving Private Ryan” on DVD over the weekend and there are not enough words of gratitude that I can express.

A normal November day, cool wet and overcast. Just
remembering my two brothers on this day who served in the big war. They have both passed on.
The men comming home from this war are so torn apart,it is so sad to see some of them. Proud of you Deb for calling this man on not remembering our country.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, November 12, 2012 - 10:17 am:

Saving Private Ryan is one of the best war movies EVER!!! I shed so many tears throughout that one. It's just all so sad and you just can feel for the loved ones waiting at home who will never see their family again. Too sad for me.

Thanks, Gene. He really ticked me off, and he found out :-)

How nice to see these pictures of Lake Linden. I have an attachment
to the town now that I know two of its citizens--Mary and Deb. In
fact I think I'll claim Mikie too since we've corresponded on Pasty
Cam. I recognized all of the sites and have even attended a
cousin's wedding reception at the Loading Dock and had breakfast
with Deb, Ron and my father at the famous Lindell's (sp.?).

Having served in Vietnam and Korea twice, I pay honor to my wife and children who somehow carried on while I was gone...they are my heroes.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, November 12, 2012 - 11:37 am:

Yep, kosk, you can claim us any time.

By Eugene Zuverink (Zube) on Monday, November 12, 2012 - 12:03 pm:

Just look at Lake Linden, what a pretty little town. Why would any one leave Deb, other than for work. Things sure do slow down in a little town like that. No shootings, no robberies it sure must be nice.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Monday, November 12, 2012 - 12:35 pm:

God bless you, Peter, spoken like a true veteran and family man!:) So glad you made it back to your wife and children! Thank you for your service to your country!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, November 12, 2012 - 03:58 pm:

Pete, I can appreciate what you are saying. I remember my oldest sister separated as a newlywed, married less than 1 yr. while her husband was serving in Viet Nam. She lived each day with so much courage. She really inspired me!
