Last week we featured some fall color photos from Taka Aoki, who hadn't visited the U.P. since he left Michigan Tech, ten years ago. A promise was made to feature a few more of his photos and here we are with two Superior shots today.

Taka captured the Eagle Harbor lighthouse in a scene that is photographed over and over, but he made it fresh by slowing down the shutter speed and taking the rough edge off Lake Superior's waves. I bet the sailors on the Big Lake freighters would like to be able to smooth out the waves like this.

The next shot Taka took of Lake Superior is au naturel, without any camera enhancements. I have no clue where this shot was snapped, so it's your choice where you want it to be on the shores of Lake Superior. My pick is out at the end of Hunter's Point, in Copper Harbor. Put yourself in this scene and tell us where YOU are standing. :->

Beautiful! You can't go wrong with the lake or the Eagle Harbor lighthouse!! Love them!!

Between Eagle Harbor and Copper Harbor, there's an unmarked place to pull of M26. The gravel wash looks like that place,as well as the rocky shore.

Nope, a bit further west than Hunter's Point. This is taken along M-26 about 2.7 miles west of the US-41/M-26 intersection. It's a little hard to explain but it's the first "major" lakeside pullout on 26 if you're heading west from Copper Harbor. It's a popular spot with Dr. Nat and I as there are nice stromatolite exposures on the rocks and a great view of the dip on the MidContinent Rift.

Leave it to the Capt to note a scientific methodology in determination of the location! Not to mention past personal experience!

Hei Cap't. Paul, this can't be too far off from the Devil's Washtub, 'eh? Maybe a little further west. Just a guess.

By Debi Steinle (Debi) on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 - 05:18 am:

That was going to be my guess too. Between Eagle Harbor and Copper Harbor. I won't even argue about it this time! HA!!

I took the picture of the 15th of october and made it my wallpaper...it is a stretch between copper harbor and eagle harbor...when my husband and I with our 2 kids would visit my mom, we would take a ride to copper harbor and then drive hy 26 to this point..we would park the car on the side of the road and then walk out onto the hugh rock formations in the lake...we would just sit there quietly and just admire this beautiful lake...JLM
