Melanie Hakala Rossi brings us a color report from the Kearsarge area, with some photos taken this past Sunday. The colors are popping out more and more, with the reds really looking deep, dark and beautiful. Reports say that the further north you go in the Keweenaw, the less color there is, so the color season will be blooming for a time yet, possibly up to two weeks or so in the Harbor areas. Of course a lot of that depends on the weather, too, since a big wind storm could clear the leaves off the trees in just a few hours, too. Predicting the colors is not an exact science, it is dependent on the whim of that fickle Mother Nature. Get out there and enjoy the colors as they're blooming!

Such beautiful pictures! Fall the last coloring before everything turns white! But white is ok!

Thanks for the update! It is looking pretty good for my quick trip UP this weekend and the weather is supposed to be nice, too. :-)

Beautiful colors! Wow, what a difference a week makes! We stayed in Copper Harbor, but we went through the Kearsarge area last week and the colors have really popped since then. I just love those deep reds. Nice shots!

Magnificent! I love the green of the pines interspersed with all the color! Makes the colors more vibrant!
Thanks Melanie and Mary, for a beautiful start of the day!

Alex, ride safe this weekend, and enjoy your trip.

I do miss the fall colors of the UP. Living here in Washington state (AKA: the evergreen state) we don't see much color in the fall. Mostly just what color-trees people have planted in their yards. 'Course on the flip side, we DO have green here all winter so there's that but still, I miss the wonderful color show in the fall.

AWESOME!

Hi
Recently we had visitors from India in our office. Although don't yet have much of a color change down here in SE Michigan, one of the visitors remarked that she was excited to see it: "I've never seen orange trees before". It was a different perspective; my own reaction had been "nothing much doing yet (yawn)".

There's an apparent gas leak in Wadsworth Hall, Tech's biggest dorm, by far. They evacuated the whole building to across the street, and are working on it now, with police from a bunch of agencies and fire trucks from at least a couple of places. I'm praying that everyone is ok and that there is no resulting explosion or fire! My son was over there, eating dinner, when he and many others smelled the gas. I feel sorry for those who had not gotten a chance to eat yet. If you look on Tech's Walker Cam, you can see some of the evacuated students milling around. Thank heavens it's reasonably warm there, for this time of the year. Still, many students are not dressed for a real evacuation, not just a still. They could be out there for who knows how long!

Edited to Add: oops, I'm sorry, this should have been over on the What's Up page.

ETA 2 : It looks like they have now must have been given the all clear, thank goodness!

Marianne, that's terrible! Will hope and pray that your son and the others are safe!

By Diana P. (Diana) on Friday, September 28, 2012 - 07:23 pm:

Marianne, glad the situation seems under control up there at MTU now. Are the meal tickets still good at some food places in the MUB? :-)

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, September 28, 2012 - 07:32 pm:

I'm not really sure about provisional meal situations. I have to believe that they will make some allowances. :-)

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, September 28, 2012 - 07:48 pm:

Marianne, glad your son is safe. You must be so relieved.
