Danielle Adams was in Marquette and Escanaba recently and for her, that means an automatic trip to the harbor to watch the freighters coming and going. She wasn't disappointed in either town, as you can see by the compilation of photos she shares with us here today.

We start out with a night time shot of the James R. Barker at the docks in Marquette. Actually her last photo is also the same freighter and she said that when she snapped the bottom photo, it was unloading coal. Meanwhile on the other side of the dock, she said the Lee A. Tregurtha (in the third photo) was loading ore. Danielle ended up going back down to the docks around 11 p.m. and the James R. Barker was still there unloading coal when she snapped the night time shot. Quite impressive all lit up like that. Busy place, that Marquette Harbor.

Danielle captured the H. Lee White (in the second photo), just as it was leaving Escanaba, so she really made the rounds, catching freighters in the north and in the south within just a few days. Thanks for taking us along!

A great way to start the day i.e. Pasty cam and freighter pictures. I have been watching these boats since growing up near the coal dock in Hubbell in the 1940's.
thanks to Danielle Adams for these great shots.

Is that the ship that ran aground in the Soo last week...Tregurtha?

Nice photos!

Alex, that was her 'sister'...Paul R. Tregurtha...1013 footer.
The first time we saw the James Barker was while standing on the deck of the Valley Camp at the Soo....it seemed to go on forever...BIG beautiful ship! Thanks for the pix, Danielle!

Check out this site: http://www.boatnerd.com/pictures/fleet/leeatregurtha.htm
for the history of the Lee A. Tregurtha. She is a venerable WWII vet.

You're right, Paul, 'she' wears her ribbons proudly.

As a boatnerd, I love today's pic's. Thanks so much. Have been lucky enough to have seen all of these ladies. "boatnerd.com" is the place to go to learn about the freighters!

I joined that group (boatnerds) about 10-11yrs ago, Dotti, met some fine folks and learned a lot about the boats and the Lakes during that time.
