I was driving down the street in Calumet the other day and for whatever reason, looked up when I came to a stop sign and that first photo here today is what I saw. I laughed right out loud, all by myself in the car and then remembered that I had my camera with me, so I pulled into a parking spot and snapped some photos of this 2nd story guard dog. He/she was too funny, watching the cars drive by and really getting alert when someone would park in front of the store and walk in. I walked away chuckling and smiled about this scene for the rest of the day.

Then a few days later, I spotted these two photos from Lindy Vencato and began smiling all over again. I bet you're thinking that first shot of Lindy's, is a reflection of the cat in the window, right? WRONG! That's actually two different cats (brothers), one on the inside and one on the outside. What a great shot to have captured. In her second photo, these two guys decided to check out what was going on in the great outdoors of Lake Linden, so they both picked a different window to sit in, while watching the world go by.

Pets do the funniest things, making you smile when you come back home after being gone for awhile. No wonder they become such a huge part of people's lives.

Watch dog AND cat.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Saturday, August 18, 2012 - 08:24 am:

Too funny! The dog looks like it is watching other dogs walking their people. Now, all we need is a couple of canaries to round things out :-)

The sign should read, Bucko's Party Store & Party Animals!

Such entertaining shots, Mary, thank you for sharing these!! If you look at the top two long enough, you almost see his/her head move....watching so intently. :>

Some days, when we're cleaning up their vomit and stuff, we wonder why we keep them, lol. But then those other days, when they're so sweet and think you're God's gift to them, you know they're worth it!!

Thanks for the fun pictures!

I don't know Janie; if that's what "party animals" look like the next morning, they must have had one wild night!!

I would have been laughing out loud also if i had spotted the handsome watchdog up there. I love the watchcats also. hmmm just wonder how often these 4 legged critters are keeping an eye on us!!

Until we got our beagle we had watch rabbits in our yard - now they don't come around as much and seem a bit more skittish. I think they watched out for us as well as all the other hungry animals up here on the Keweenaw. I love the cats - but allergies keep them from my home. Our dog watches every body but doesn't bark warnings - mostly runs up to everyone for treats or petting.

Deb S., your post reminded me of a story I saw in one of those Christian story books you find in doctors and dentists' offices. This girl's dad wanted to get rid of her little pug dog (I think that's what it was) because the dog was always getting into all kinds of mischief. But the girl still loves her dog infinitely, and the lesson was that God still loves us the same even when we get into mischief. This is starting to sound like a sermon, so I'll conclude for now.

Amen, and well said, Thomas!:)

Our dog is like that Richard. She will let out a low "woof" as if she's fierce, but then she runs away until she's sure they won't hurt her, lol. Nice watch dog we have!!!

I've had a very stressful summer with sick kitties and territory issues with three neutered males and lots of undesirable things to clean up off the floor, but when they look up at you with those adoring eyes and purr so loudly, it's all worth it. And it's nice to be able to throw on another cat when it starts to get cold at night. With four cats, I should be nice and warm this winter. Purrrrrr.....
