The waters of Lake Superior are ever so clear, that even when you're in deeper water, you can see what's below. Lisa Normand wasn't in deep water when she snapped today's photos showing just what I'm talking about, but in the shallows along the shore. If it wasn't for the motion of the water causing the ripples on the surface, you'd hardly even notice the sand and rocks are covered with water. Even when the water is stirred up, though, you can see the clarity this Big Lake possesses. She creates patterns in the sand and moves the rocks all around with the force of her waves. When she's calm, it's a rock hunters paradise...when she's wavy, the rock hunters have more of a challenge to find her gems. Yes, indeed, Gitche Gumee creates her own art and changes it many times a day.

At a quick glance I thought the first picture was an aerial shot of a wheat field.

Awesome Superior!!

By Dunerat (Dunerat) on Friday, July 27, 2012 - 08:18 am:

Great shots, Lisa. Thanks! I love the first impressions I get of so many photos on the Pasty Cam when I see them in the small window on the Live Keweenaw Web Cams page. Many times that first glance is misleading, then I'm always charmed by the actual content of the photo when I see it in larger format. Today, the top photo "Water patterns" looked like burlwood. It's an exceptionally beautiful photo, Lisa!

Hi
I thought the first picture was a mosaic. Is it a sheet of sandstone? They are all beautiful pictures.

Wonderful pics, Lisa! I'm heading UP tomorrow - overnighting in Brimley then on to the Harbor and the KML!! One of my most favorite places is Hunter's Point - it soothes the rockhound in me. Can't wait to be back in God's Country!

This trip we hiked in the Mary MacDonald Preserve to
Horseshoe Harbor. What a beautiful spot. Not easy to get
to, but oh so worth the trek. It's right at the top of
my list of favorites along with Hunters' Point and Estivan
Pines.

I'm intrigued by the Mary MacDonald Preserve and Horshoe bay. Where in the UP are they?

By Therese (Therese) on Friday, July 27, 2012 - 02:55 pm:

Beautiful! I can see the first photo turned into a mosaic. They are all keepers.
