What a delightful time Edie and I have had the past couple of weeks with our daughter Becky and her two girls Kira and Kit! These are a couple of shots from Sunday afternoon at the roadside park at Lac LaBelle. Afterwards we swam at Bete Gris, and ended up staying so long that your regular weekday moderator Mary Drew had to fill in for Shoebox Memories.

Becky is the former 'pasty girl', as she handled pasty orders during the years she and husband Bryan Howard lived at Michigan Tech. Bryan eventually earned his PhD in Utah, where they still live. While Dad was away on a trip out west, the girlies came to visit Grandma and Grandpa Hopper. Later today we will shuttle them to the Marquette Airport and see them off on their return to the 'Beehive State'. (How many knew that about Utah?)

An afternoon picnic in the U.P.... one of many pleasant memories we'll cherish of our visitors in the summer of 2012.

A picnic in the U.P. with daughter and granddaughters ... can't think of anything much better than that! Kira and Kit will have many precious memories of their U.P. time with Grandma and Grandpa. What a special family you have, Charlie and Edie! And yes, it's so sad to send them back ... I know that from experience ... have to focus on the next time together. Safe travels home, Becky, Kira and Kit! :-)

We were just there on Friday, the last day of our wonderful
Keweenaw trip. We had such a great time driving all over the
peninsula, from High Rock Point to Hancock and everywhere
inbetween and back to the place we had in Cat Harbor for
sunset every night. The little park in Lac Labelle was one new
place we found. The Brickside Brewery in Copper Harbor
was another. If you're there, you should stop in to meet
Jason and taste his great beers! Thank you to everyone we
met for our perfect UP vacation.

I knew that, Charlie.:) Utah has some beautiful mountainous scenery, which I'm sure your family enjoys. Those granddaughters are growing like weeds.....pretty weeds, that is.

I have many fond memories of being at that park beginning in the 1950's ! There used to be a stairway next to the falls.

There is nothing quite like a summer picnic! Great pics!

Why is Lac La Belle getting spelled wrong all over the place in recent years? It's three separate words. This weird spelling where they drop a space is like saying Canyon Thegrand. That's just incorrect.
