Our brief return to winter in the Keweenaw, ended as quickly as it came, so the ice in today's photos has melted away by now, but such beauty just had to be shared anyway.

This past Tuesday, Susan Hooker took a drive out to the Houghton Breakers, which is on the opposite side of the canal from McLain State Park. She wanted to see what the rain, snow, wind and cold temperatures had done out there and from the looks of the photos here today, she wasn't disappointed with the results. It looks like the wind must have been splashing the waves up and over the break wall there, spraying the trees and fences alongside, only to have the water freeze before it could run off. Quite the ice sculptor that Mother Nature is, even taking a bedspring that someone dumped there on the beach and temporarily making it beautiful with a coating of ice. Why someone would dump that there is beyond me, but hopefully a good Samaritan with a truck will haul it away.

These unique ice photos are great! :-)

Hi
The iced bedspring---or it's picture--could be in an art fair.

It took me a minute to realize what the bedspring photo was. Garbage made beautiful.

N'ice pics!
I think #4 could be someone's weird tradition for the start of Spring.

God can make anything beautiful.

Beautiful photos today. The ice is gorgeous with the sun shining and the beauty of spring is that it doesn't last long.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Wow! That is some fantastic photographic work by Susan, and the ice is just gorgeous. Just the right conditions for it to form. Looks like glass! Thanks for sharing!

Nature's beauty.

I have been thinking about moving up to the UP but I am not sure if I can handle the cold. A wimpy troll who is now living in Missouri.

By Just me (Jaby) on Friday, April 20, 2012 - 06:00 pm:

I sure love the ice sculpture pics!!!

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Friday, April 20, 2012 - 08:42 pm:

Lucylu ~

Go for it!

If you are lucky enough to get to live in the UP, do it! It isn't set in stone and if you are too wimpy to stand the cold at least you can say you tried.

By Barbara Bouwkamp (Barbarab) on Friday, April 20, 2012 - 08:54 pm:

Great photos, great eye for the beauty of the ice! Love the lighthouse seen through the iced up fence and the bedsprings!
