These three forest fire photos were taken by E. Neil Harri over in Iron County. It doesn't look to be a large forest fire, but it was a threat of becoming bigger, as all fires are. If you look closely at the first photo, you can see three firefighters on the right hand side and in the second photo, Neil says that is guy in a tractor plow, "pinching off the head" of the fire. This one, fortunately has been put out, but we figured this would be a good way to get the warning out there that the fire dangers right now are high, in fact Neil said the last few days have been Red Flag days, which means that it's as bad as conditions can get for dryness and potential fire danger. So, if you're out and about in the outdoors here in the U.P., please be very careful with any form of fire, including cigarette butts and matches. Remember what Smokey the Bear says: "Only YOU can prevent forest fires."

WOW!! Huge fire danger out here too. Everything's so dry. We could really use a nice rain.

Great pictures! Glad it was put out!

Looks like the same three fellows in the second picture but from the opposite angle just left of center. Hard work while breathing all that smoke. What started this one, looks to be rather remote except for the house in the third shot.

Having lived in Calif., I know how dangerous dry conditions can trigger these fires...Calif. is notorious for that. However, down here in the Ohio Valley there's nothing to worry about....I think we're getting all the rain that's falling this Spring. Everyone UP there, play safe and stay safe!

Smokey's advice always bears to repeat.....

3 people (and many domestic animals) lost their lives 2 weeks ago here in Colorado, due to a wildfire. These fires are dangerous, not only to property but to lives. I hope we all get rain, snow or whatever it takes.

Same here in the middle of Illinois, red flag days and brush fires. If all the tilled land was done the old ways, we would be having dust storms. Fortunately, modern agriculture is using better methods.

Thankful for firefighters.

I thought they changed the saying to be remember only you can prevent wild fires.

As Pat Paulson once said, "Prevent forest fires..........forest fires could prevent YOU!"
