On this beautiful morning in the Keweenaw, my thoughts drifted to Central Church, just over the hills from here (Eagle River). I wonder how many Easter mornings Central Mine families gathered there for Sunrise Service? Next time you're on that long, curvy stretch of U.S. 41 between Phoenix and Copper Harbor, take a detour up the hill and step back in time. Since we first took you there on the Pasty Cam in 1999, a lovely Visitor's Center has been added by Keweenaw County Historical Society.

As I gathered the photos and did the weekly Pasty Cam changeover this morning, I was listening to a follow-up from our Shoebox Memory last month with Maude Sincock Roberts. This is a recording from 1936 by Commanded CH Lightoller, his BBC eyewitness report as one of the crew members who survived the Titanic disaster. Later this week the BBC website will have another story on the 100th anniversary of the tragedy. I am told they will mention Maude among those survivors. As soon as we see the link for the story, we will post it on the Pasty Cam.

Thanks for catching the error, Ken. It has been corrected to April 8

The stories on the Titanic page link are remarkable. Especially touching is the one from Eva Hart, one of the last survivors, who was just 7 years old at the time.

Beautiful photo. I love historic places! Thanks for posting. It would be so fun to hold a service in the church. If only walls COULD talk. I wonder how many people were blessed in that church. Blessed by hearing the Good News and coming to personally know the Lord, blessed with worshiping the One True God, blessed with God's presence filling the room and touching hearts. How many times did people gather in that church to thank God for His GREAT and AWESOME goodness and faithfulness? I wonder if any of my family gathered there? What was the name of the church?

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Monday, April 9, 2012 - 09:04 am:

Wonderful message there, Lucylu!
I think Mary said it was "Central Church".
