A pair of snowshoes, the quiet of the snow covered trees, the birds chirping as you crunch, crunch by in the snow. These are a few of my favorite things about winter in the Keweenaw woods. You get to enjoy the beauty of the snow hanging on the trees and feel like you are far from civilization, even the wind has a harder time finding you, when you're deep into the trees.

This snowy woodpile was alongside the trail and will fill the wood stove nicely next winter, as it waits out in the woods, getting well seasoned over the coming year. A winter walk in the U.P. woods, I think it's just what the doctor ordered...get out there and enjoy it.

I gave my son in law a pair of snow shoes and he hung them on the wall of his great room. I thought he would use them in the woods.

There's something about trees and a pile of wood that's relaxing. Love these pictures!

These are the words of the inner Mary speaking aren't they? Lovely. Thanks for sharing with a bare-grounded friend.

Dreamy pictures, for sure! But when I first saw the top photo, my thought was that maybe a critter of some sort came up suddently behind Jim, and he skedaddled.;)

Very nice! We are looking at temps in the mid-60s next week in SE-MI...unusual for March.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Saturday, March 10, 2012 - 11:00 am:

Alex, we are forecast for 70's next week. I noticed the Low Rider is no longer wearing it's cover, and the license plate has the current sticker on......

"The Keweenaw", where a man's wealth is measured by the size of his woodpile.

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 - 10:16 am:

My Dad was a wealthy man! He always had a huge wood pile. By the way last week my son saw the northern lights down here in N.Ga.He went out to bring the trash can to the street and said he was just awed by them. Never have seen them here before.
