Winter came for another visit here in the Keweenaw the last few days, covering everything in another blanket of white, like the pine cone and branch in the top photo from Dan Brown. It definitely brightens up the landscape when we get a fresh covering of snow like that.

The second photo was snapped by David Clark, showing another pine cone in the snow, but this one has fallen and already has the snow melting from around it. Maybe this one will end up feeding a squirrel or two in the woods.

Speaking of woods, that's where our snowshoe tracks were heading out of last Sunday, after spending a day making tracks in and around the woods, enjoying the snow on a sunny day.

Deb, I share your liking of pines in the snow! Beautiful! Linn County Iowa got 2.5 in. of snow, and the local media is making it sound so life threatening!

Wonderful photos today! Thanks to UP influence, pine trees and pine cones have always been among my favorite things, too ... snow on them is an added bonus to the beautiful sight! In wintertime, two bushel baskets of pine cones, handpicked from Michigan and Arizona, decorate our front porch, on each side of the door. Two white pines proudly grace our smallish yard ... planted as tiny seedlings for a school project by our kids many years ago ... nearly 20 feet tall now. And snowshoeing is the first thing I have put on my "bucket list" ... seems like it would be a lot of fun to do on a visit to the UP! Happy Friday to all! :-)

I'm loving the snow pictures. We were told yesterday that a big snowstorm was on its way here overnight in southeast Michigan. Well, some schools even announced that school would be closed last night. Lucky for the kids, but the storm amounted to almost nothing! It was going to be our first real snowstorm of the season. I really miss the snow, and it's almost March, so I'm wondering if there will be another chance. I may just have to rely on the Pasty Cam to get me through.

I think it's pretty safe to say that even in the mild winters the UP seems to be able to be that one rock that keeps reminding everyone of what time of year it actually is! :) It certainly makes my visits every day more pleasant and makes me all that more excited for when I can actually get back up there (albeit briefly) during the winter. Of course there won't be any snow on the ground when i get there! It'll come right after I leave. :)

I love today's photos, especially the first and second ones! Cindy, we had a Snow Day here in Midland County: the whole county, well all of the school districts & senior services, etc, shut down. We had a Winter Storm Warning for 5 to 9 inches of snow. We were a little bit above freezing, most of the day, though, so it packed down. I shudder to think about how our residential streets will be in the morning when it gets down to 23 overnight tonight. The storm went north of where it had been predicted to go, so we got it, instead of you. My son, who lives in Troy, was sad that they got almost nothing down there. He said his commute home today was really easy, as there was nothing on the pavement down there. (Yes, my special needs' son's Special Olympics basketball game was canceled for tonight, so he's sad, too, but at least he got snow to play with.)

Marianne, so sorry your son's Special Olympics game was cancelled but I'll bet he's enjoying all that snow.:) Has he built a snowman yet?
