We just updated the Wallpaper of the Week for March 20-26, which features Paul Robert's sunrise photo that appeared on Good Friday. Even if your monitor will not display 1600 x 1200, you might be interested in seeing the largest WOW each week, as it reveals much more zoomed-in detail. On Paul's picture, it is interesting to note all of the residential chimneys on this windless day, in addition to the steam rising at Michigan Tech. Thanks to all 12 photographers who appear on the WOW page for some great variety during the first quarter of this year.

The other day, someone requested a shot of the stairs on the Hancock end of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge. A big thanks to Robert C. Wetton for obliging us. Hope he was careful stopping like that on the bridge! :->

Hi All,
I just wanted to check on the snow conditions in the U.P. My In-Laws are down for a visit, until the snow melts. Could any one give a time frame on that occuring? Also, how much snow is actually on the ground up there? (They live near Gould City)

BTW, It is awesomly beautiful country up there!!!Thank you!

FYI:--- Detroit Public Television WTVS Channel 56 will present a Documentary special, March 30, 5:30AM "Keewenaw Copper: A Michigan Story" Narrated by Candice Miller -R- Macomb County.
I assume other PBS stations will be running this and maybe in other time slots. Check your TV program listings! I'm looking forward to this, it ought be good!

My brother, cousins, and I played up and down those above pictured steps many a day as kids in the 40s! We lived just to the left of the top of the steps on Cooper Street. Lots of precious memorys! There were no signs then, and not as many trees! The "old" swing bridge was there then!

By RCW on Monday, March 28, 2005 - 05:18 pm:

We took the picture on the FLY Mary. Wouldn't dare to stop!!!

By copper country resident on Monday, March 28, 2005 - 06:29 pm:

RCW-you MUST have had the MRS driving to take that picture. OR had her take the picture.

By maijaMI on Monday, March 28, 2005 - 06:42 pm:

wow, for all the hundreds of times I have crossed the bridge, I have never noticed the stairs. Watching traffic, I guess! I gotta make time to get out and walk the streets in Hancock!

What’s up with the calumet theater being haunted, I will volunteer to stay the night to prove it wrong as I spent many a Saturdays there for the matinee.

By copper country resident on Monday, March 28, 2005 - 08:57 pm:

RCW- this message for MRS RCW, great shot of the sidewalk sitting in the co-pilot seat. Ever think of doing photography for a living???

By pastycam reader on Monday, March 28, 2005 - 08:59 pm:

Is there a ghost in the Calumet Theater or maybe some wrong doing long ago?

By DB on Monday, March 28, 2005 - 09:30 pm:

THAT GHOST KNOCKED OVER MY MICROPHONE TWICE WHILE I PLAYED MY MANDOLIN ON STAGE ABOUT 20 YRS AGO. DIDNT BOTHER ANYONE ELSE THAT NITE.
OTHER MUSICIANS SAW SWINGING MICROPHONES ONE OTHER NITE. I HAVENT BEEN BACK ON STAGE TO TRY AGAIN BUT IT WOULDNT STOP ME.

By pastycam reader on Monday, March 28, 2005 - 09:35 pm:

Does anyone know why the Calumet Theater is noted for being haunted? What exactly happened there?

By kosk in Toronto on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 - 05:18 am:

Too bad. It's still yesterday. I was hoping to
be the first today. Never have been before.

SWM in Texas, I'm from SE Michigan, but I have this website that shows snow depth (click & zoom in--also, the default is snow-water equivalent [Phyical element box], you'll want to change it to snow depth & hit refresh screen). It looks like a couple of feet in the UP, yet. Down here in SE Michigan it's supposed to be 60 degrees today (Tueday)
