Good morning ya'll. No really, it is bedtime for me...I have been up all night working on a pile of paperwork and burning the midnight oil. Finally headed to bed after a 20 hour day. Catch ya on the flip side.

Is that a fish shanty? I thought we were scheduled to get 3-5" of snow during the night. I see none as I look out upon the yard. What a disappointment! Good morning all on hump day.

Winter was almost back in Indiana last night. We were expected to get 3-5 inches throughout the night...at least that is what weather.com claimed yesterday afternoon. So, I was all looking forward to snow last night...and about 8pm last night I took the doggies outside, and no snow.....hmmmm. I took another looksee on weather.com and at the very last minute the snow storm veered about 50 miles north of us and completely missed us. :(

Wish I was up in the UP enjoying your winter snow storm.

John Dee did a great job of nailing that forecast!

By Kathy from Whitmore Lake/Cheboygan on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 - 12:28 pm:

Hi
I was also expecting 3-5 inches of snow...I guess the weather guys read it wrong, they should have said 3/5 of an inch, 'cause that's all we got here in SE Michigan (Livingston & Washtenaw counties)

By sur5er on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 - 01:44 pm:

Kathy,

The snow storm was supposed to swing straight across northern Indiana and southern Michigan...according to the afternoon satelite pic yesterday. But when I checked the satelite pic yesterday evening, you could see where the snow showers had veered to the north...up into Wisconsin and across lake Michigan to the north western part of Michigan. I guess it just took a last minute turn that the meterologists weren't counting on.

Still glad I put my truck in the garage though...all that rain froze last night when the temperatures dipped and everything was glazed with ice this morning. ;)

Sure was an enjoyable 4 days in the good ole Keweenaw on our annual snomobile trek. Trails not the best, many moguls, but when off the main trails riding was great. had a great bunch, 4 from Mn, 1 each from Tx & NC, 2 from IN, and 3 from AL. Population of Eagle Harbor must have doubled.
Could have really used a good blow while we were there. At least we missed it here in Northern Indiana (Bristol) last night,

By Pat, Mich. on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 - 08:36 pm:

We missed the snow in lower Michigan, because by the time the temperature dropped to freezing, the rain was out of here.

sur5er, what is it you do for a living? Your hours are great!

By sur5er on Thursday, February 17, 2005 - 08:40 am:

Curious,

I work in the field of law enforcement/criminal justice victimology. At the Monroe City PD, Chief Kanavel (now retired) got me interested in victimology in the late 80's/early 90's, when victimology was in its infancy. I authored crime victim/domestic violence victim programs in Michigan for the police department and prosecutor's office. I have also worked directly with crime victims now for over 15 years.

I now work out of my home (computers are amazing), through referals, word of mouth and from simply crime victims finding me. Best way I can describe it: an extension of a police officer, merely offering support and guiding the victim through the criminal justice system.

The hours are long, but I love my job and helping others in this way is very rewarding.

Thanks for asking. ;)

By curious on Thursday, February 17, 2005 - 07:26 pm:

Wow, interesting job sur5er. I just go to the office and push paper....someone has to do it, right? You were originally from the UP? It sounds like you like snow anyway. Gotta laugh.

By sur5er on Thursday, February 17, 2005 - 08:26 pm:

Curious,

I'm originally from southern Michigan. I loved the UP so much,(and all that snow), that I had planned on moving up to the UP to work in law enforcement victimology back in 1998. But because of something completely out of my control, I had to move out of state. Now I am hoping that somewhere in the UP a job opening in law enforcement victimology opens up, and I can fulfill my dream of working and living up in the UP.

Oh trust me, plenty of paperwork involved in victimology :) Researched all day on the computer for some info for a victim...to the point that the words on the puter screen were blurry and my eyes were crossed. Uncovered not one, but two incredible finds today...and now two officers owe me coffee...big time :)
