Thanks, Japei! My dad and his friends at the
Finnish Cultural Center in the Lower
Peninsula of Michigan, celebrated Finnish
Independence Day. One year I was with him
and even had a chance to sing the Finnish
National Anthem.

Good to see your graphics again Yooper. Ever
think of designing the state of Michigan--with
the UP figuring more prominently, of course?

Oops..Getting late. Better leave for work.

NKR, pass the sunscreen...we're having a heat wave, here on Lake Michigan...why, it's ten degrees here :)
Thanks for the wonderful link Japei.
Love the animation Yooper :)

Ice on the canal; I'd been wondering when it would happen.

In honor of my father-in-law, Yrjo Raasakka, who served in three wars in Finland and then moved to the USA in 1948.

We fly the Finnish and American flags in our house as my husband was a dual citizen for awhile. As the rules have changed, he is now only a citizen of the U.S.A. and happy to be one.

Hi everyone. Just heard Tom Skilling on WGN t.v.noon news mention he had talked to John Dee of UP's Keewenau(sp?)county and there are places up there with over 100 inches of snow already! Oh how I miss the snow...Ms Katie from Texas

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 - 02:25 pm:

I think it's the higher elevations of the Porkies that have the 100" of snow. It seems I read that in John Dee's journal a few days ago.

Hi all,

Here's an interesting site with Finnish text for Christmas songs:
http://www.kaiku.com/finnxmastexts.html

I did notice that Heikki Lunta is not among the songs...

By Downstatedon (Downstatedon) on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 - 12:26 am:

Candy Goulette: Thank you for sharing the Finnish
text for Christmas songs with us. Sure wish I could sing them. Do remember them being sung at
Christmas many years ago. Brings back memories.
