This is a great time of year to watch the different elements blanketing the trees along the shores in the Keweenaw, not to mention the sheet beginning to form on the surface of the lakes. What an eerie looking scene Paul Talvensaari happened upon one recent frosty morning. The cottage nestled amongst the frost and fog could be the setting for a scary movie. In the second photo, Martin Bacher snapped the sun beginning it's rise, burning off of the fog and melting the frost. Better watch your step if you venture out on that dock, otherwise you might end up in the drink! Brrrrr...

Good morning from Mishawaka IN. WOW! Beautiful pictures this morning. The first one looks like it could have been taken here along the St. Joseph River and I love the colors in the second one. 17° here this morning and it looks like about 6 or 7" of snow in my back yard. Have a good day everyone.

What beautiful pics :)Cpomazel, I'm with Margaret...I'm staying in the sauna and skipping the 'jumping in the lake' tradition ;)

By Lowell La Fave (Lowell) on Friday, December 9, 2005 - 09:08 am:

Nice Pics
Cold and nasty here in mid central Missouri. Only got 3 inchs of snow from that storm but the temps have been dropping all week. I had 1 deg. at 7:00 Am and with the wind chill that about 12 below.

Margaret & Sur5er---Come on!!! Don't be chicken!!! Besides, jumping in Da lake or inna snow bank isn't really tradition. Da cold closes up da pores dat da sauna opened up from da heat!!! LOL Have a great day!!!!!

By Julia (Julia) on Friday, December 9, 2005 - 09:29 am:

I love the little bit of color in the sunrise picture, very nice shot

By happyooper (Trigal) on Friday, December 9, 2005 - 09:30 am:

Dashamo's right. If you don't WANNA jump in the lake/snowbank, yer sauna ain't hot enuf! :)
Beautiful photos. I love the challenge of the first one and the silence of the second.

The photo today reminds me of something I saw from my ship in Alaska this summer. Thanks for the picture.

By Shelley Trowbridge (Shelleyt36) on Friday, December 9, 2005 - 09:33 am:

Very nice pictures this morning!
Finally have a decent amount of snow here in the middle of the mit, about 5 1/2-6" here in my back yard. Kids are excited, first SNOW DAY of the school year, making for a long weekend! Heading out to snowmobile later on after lunch!
Have a good day everyone!

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, December 9, 2005 - 09:34 am:

Dashamo, If you say so. Although I am sure dat some woman has invented some type of herbal concoction dat closes da pores, so ya don't have to jump in da lake...after da sauna. So are you gonna cut da hole in da ice for us? :)

By Former Fulton Resident (Dashamo) on Friday, December 9, 2005 - 09:38 am:

sur5er, Noooo!! Just jump in da snow bank!!

By Charles in Adrian (Charlesinadrian) on Friday, December 9, 2005 - 09:43 am:

Whew! Just back from hand shoveling our long driveway. I was
wondering how much snow we had. From comments here I
guess we must have had 6 or 7 inches too. Pretty to look at and
fun to shovel when it is nice and light like this. My wife says no
one in the U.P. still uses a hand shovel. Just because I used one
the last winter I lived up there in 1956-57 is no reason to stick
with it now. She is probably right (mostly she is always right on
stuff like this), but I figure that's something to put off to when I
get old, I guess. I wonder if Charlie puts his old gents out there
shovelling snow? I bet some of them would prefer that to
making pasties. Well, now I have vented a bit, and I see a big
old golden retriever looking for his morning constititional. See
ya.

It's freezing in So. Cal this morning, rain and
50 degrees... Enjoy the snow everyone and get in the lake. A true Russian banya, sp? also calls for dried fish and vodka, hot sauna and a soak in some freezing cold water... Enjoy ! .. and don't forget the massage !!

By happyooper (Trigal) on Friday, December 9, 2005 - 11:23 am:

Freezing?! It warmed up to 17 degrees this morning!

By Sofia Lokke, Scandinavia (Sofial) on Friday, December 9, 2005 - 02:42 pm:

Hi everyone. Haven't been here for quite a while, but it's great to see that pasty.com is still going strong!!!
I grew up in Sweden, and since my dad's Finn - I've had many good saunas' during my 25 years. But, tell you what... My first time ever - that I went out and rolled in the snowbank, after a hot sauna - that was in the UP!!!! That's cool!!
Thanks to my dear old friend Sonja Kivari, I was able to follow up the old Finn tradition, to roll in a snowbank (if there's no lake to jump in...) Have a great day, everyone! :-)

By Scott Deprest (12retire) on Friday, December 9, 2005 - 03:23 pm:
