Exactly one week ago today, the exciting news about the expansion of Pasty Central's operations was announced right here on these pages. E. Neil Harri made a timely flight and grabbed a snapshot of the new corporate campus acreage and beyond, so we can have a better idea of the layout of the land. If you have a high speed Internet connection (such as Pasty.net Wireless DSL), you might want to click on the full size version of the picture for a closer look. "As the crow flies", Lake Superior is almost in our backyard! :->

Nice picture of Kearsarge, didn't realize just how close Lake Superior was until I looked at this photo. Thanks Neil Harri for providing these pictures.

Here's a closer look, zoomed in to the lower left corner of the photo above:

We are trying to get the foundations in and the building framed before snow comes (which could be today). Then over the winter it will give our pasty elves something to do after the holiday rush, as we get the old Hut back into shape, better than ever, in time to open by Mother's day. (at least, that's the plan).

Very Exciting!!!! Although I have never been in the Hut Inn, I heard of the shag carpeting that beautified the walls. I was sad to hear it closed, along with the other restaurant there. I can't remember the name of the other restaurant (prior to pasty pub), but I do remember fish fry fridays. I am happy that the Hut Inn will be back in business, 'cuz I still have business to do there, pasties, yum.

Miigwetch for the beautiful aerial.

I just want to wish everyone a great day. Always interesting to see the pictures at pastycam. Thanks also for the good laughs of yesterday, about the pasty-makings... I suppose we all have had some kind of bad kitchen-experiences.
I really hope I'll be able to visit the UP once more in my life.

Is the new building going to be right next to the the Hut building, connected?Shag carpeting on the walls?Good luck with everything, construction always seems to take longer than planned.

Morning all

Very fine photography. I am trying to envision this same shot a couple of weeks back and all the Fall Colors that would have been in the picture.

Charlie, I hope you can update the progress on the renovation efforts to the 'HUT' every so often to those of us that currently reside in 'TROLLVILLE'. Enjoy the day everyone.

Chris: I think the other restaurant was the Country Haus (sister restaurant to the Harbor Haus in Copper Harbor). It had wonderful Beef Rouladen.

Will the wireless service be available rurally?
Will you need a clear line of sight to the tower?
Can't wait to eat at the Hut again!

By Dale Beitz (Dbeitz) on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 - 09:38 am:

Ah, yes. The Old Country Haus in Kearsarge. I remember lots of Friday fish fry trips up there during my time at MTU. It was there that we discovered a particular brew called Dortmunder Union Dark that went exceptionally well with the fish. We also spent many hours staring at the carvings over the bar, amazed at the amount of work that went into producing them. Then there were the santa hats and white beards that went on the moose and deer heads during the Christmas season.
If I remember correctly, a german couple owned it during my time at MTU (84-89). I also seem to recall that the gentleman died around the end of my stay and the place closed for a while. Then it opened under different ownership and closed again. Time passes on...

As being one of the former cooks of the Hut, I can tell you it sure was a busy busy place. Friday night fish frys were the busiest. I really enjoyed working there when Mike P. owned it. Many good times there and the other workers were great!!! Glad it's reopening.

Mornin' a little cold here.

By Lulubelle/Hancock (Lulubelle) on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 - 01:05 pm:

Just got back from checking out the "big lake" which is all frothy from the wind. Winds clocked at 48 mph with gusts to 61 mph this morning. Sure wouldn't want to be on the lake today.

Glad to hear the Hut Inn will reopen. One of our favorite places to go on Friday evening.

By JAD, Oscar, MI (Jandalq) on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 - 01:22 pm:

Will the viewing of the pasty baking be through the windows where the pool (duck pond) is? Unrelated, but piggy backing on Lulubelle, I just returned from the North Entry Park and The Big Lake is putting on an incredible show. The waves rolling in from the West are continously crashing over the entire length of the breakwater, sometimes totally obliterating sight of it and the lighthouse. Most spectacular sight I've seen there for all the years I've lived here. On the inside of the breakers, at the end of the road the waves look like the spiked frosting peaks on an angel food cake. When they hit the corrugated metal sides they are spraying 20-30 feet high. I've seen it worse in there, but the power is amazing. Must have been 12-15 cars coming, parked watching, and going. Better than any video, TV or movie entertainment.

It took a while before a bell chimed in Sofia's blonde head... :-) I remember being to the Hut too! Was during my year as an exchange student in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I even remember that i had a CLUB SANDWICH! :-D
What memories one is able to dig out from the "upstairs-library..." ;-)
"Melev" - AWESOME to get to know you, specially since we're "family." Thanx PastyCam for bringing people together, and giving me new friends. :-)

Fritz & Maiken Ehlers were the proprieters of the "Harbor Haus" and "The Old Country House" a while back.

By Rob Kitchen (Rgkitchen) on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 - 10:03 pm:

When I was younger, my family had a cottage on Lake Medora (1969-1973). I still remember always ordering a "Hut" dog when we ate at the Hut. I was visiting my mother this last summer and was saddened by the decline of the area (although I thought the improvements to the U.S.S. Kersarge were great!). We always got our groceries (especially our meat) at the little store just to the north of the memorial.
