Good morning :-) Temps aren't too bad this morning...it only got down to the 40's here in IN. Still holding off, on turning on the furnace...and paying those high energy bills.

By Ann Wakeman (Annmarie) on Friday, October 21, 2005 - 09:59 am:

I'm with Sur5er. Here in Indianapolis, it's in the mid 40s this morning. Still holding off turning on the furnace. Although, I may need to bring out the down comforter tonight.

As a follow up to yesterdays early dawn pictures, here is a shot taken at sunrise with the moon waning. The 1929 Orton steam dredge has been running 12-7, swamping out the Lac La Belle boat launching ramp.

Thank you Mary! If you see this your help did wonders. Thank you very much.

Glad to be of service! You're welcome! :->

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Friday, October 21, 2005 - 01:17 pm:

How can a picture of that dredge turn out so pretty?

By Sunrise Side MI (Ilovelucy2) on Friday, October 21, 2005 - 05:26 pm:

Timmer,
Sunrise side is E.Tawas,Oscoda area north of Bay city. Lake Huron all the way up to the mighty mac.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, October 21, 2005 - 06:58 pm:

Ilovelucy2,
I went to the birthday party of friend, in IL. In line, at the buffet table, was a man wearing a "Tawas" sweatshirt. I commented to him, that I had just been up that way, during the summer and he told me, "finally, someone who knows where Tawas is." He went on to tell me that whenever he wore the sweatshirt, everyone always asked him where Tawas was...definately a conversation piece, eh.
As a matter of fact, I am drinking coffee out of my Michigan mug today...that has several light houses on it, including Tawas Point. ;)

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Friday, October 21, 2005 - 09:47 pm:

Sur5er,

I have two mugs that I love. No, make that
three. One that says "Say yah to the U.P.",
another that has a map of the state of
Michigan on it and a freebie from the Yoopers
that says simply, "Upper Peninsula."

We had a get to know you Bingo game at work
a couple of weeks ago. I entered myself
twice--my clues were "Not a Troll" and A
"Bruce Springsteen Song." One person got
the troll reference. Nobody got the
Springsteen reference. Maybe I'm losing my
accent. Yikes! The person who got the troll
reference is a guy who likes to golf in
Therese's part of the L.P. He even knew
what a pasty was. Maybe he knew where
Tawas was too!

By Lori Houle-Vial (Runnerlori) on Friday, October 21, 2005 - 11:22 pm:

Springsteen song is easy... "BORN IN THE USA!!!"

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Saturday, October 22, 2005 - 12:01 am:

Kosk,
My Michigan coffee mugs got lost in our move, a few years ago...so I have been busy rebuilding my collection. I am now up to about 4 UP coffee mugs...and a few from below da bridge.
About accents...when I was home the last time, a friend pointed out to me, that I now have a bit of a southern accent...I think he had too much beer, if you ask me. ;)

By Timothy Paull Colborn (Timmer280) on Saturday, October 22, 2005 - 01:47 am:

Just wondered where you were Sunrise....I'm in Oscoda! The best side of the Lower!!!!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Saturday, October 22, 2005 - 07:08 pm:

Sur5er,

Hope you're right about the accent. Guess to
ensure we don't lose ours we'd better spend
more time in the UP!

Runnerlori,

You're right of course!

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Saturday, October 22, 2005 - 11:03 pm:

sur5er...when I was young I married a fellow from northern Ill. coming from Milwaukee. After a few years here my mom said I had a "southern" accent :> . All 150 miles s.w. of home. But I sure can pick out the lilt of some of my neices/nephews who live there all their lives. Crazy huh?

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Sunday, October 23, 2005 - 02:13 am:

Kosk, Love the idea about spending more time in da UP to keep our accents. I do believe that the perfect cure would be to move to da UP, eh.
Miss Katie, I don't know if it is my line of work or what, but I get so intuned to listening to people, that I pick up thier accent.
You're right about the difference in accents, that just a few hundred miles, will make. If you travel about a hundred miles south of here, in IN, the accent is deeper.

By Glad to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) on Sunday, October 23, 2005 - 06:52 pm:

Lake Huron is the Sunnyside of lower Michigan.

By Glad to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) on Sunday, October 23, 2005 - 06:52 pm:

Sunrise side that is!
