With the Upper Peninsula not as densely populated as other areas around the country, it's sometimes jokingly said that you have to be careful what you say about folks, since everyone living here is related somehow. Such is the case of two of our Pasty Cammists, Aladino Mandoli and Ashley Byykkonen. They recently had an opportunity to get out together and snap a few pictures of the daily change in fall colors in Traprock Valley. Aladino also snuck a shot of his young cousin taking in the fading scenery with her lens. Ashley has given us a number of compositions starting back in January, with quite an eye for creativity, so it's nice to see the face behind the camera, too.

The third photo, in case you missed the slideshow of last weekends Lake Superior ProRally, comes from the original Pasty Cammist, Jonathan Hopper. Back in 1996 Jon started the website along with his dad, and in '98 started providing the daily shots, until a whole army of amateur and professional photographers took the ball and ran with it. Jonathan still is very much involved with Pasty Central and Pasty.NET as its Systems Administrator, but finds time now and then to snap some of the excitement, beauty and history of the U.P... Hard to believe he's been doing this for almost a third of his lifetime!

That first picture is priceless.

By Randall Ollila (Rwolli) on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 09:06 am:

Morning All.

Thanks for the history lesson Mary. I had thought it was Charlie that started Pasty Cam, or is Charlie Jonathans dad? Anyway I continue to marvel at the variety of contributions this website offers on a daily basis. Enjoy the day everyone.

You're right on both counts. Charlie started the Pasty Cam with pictures from Jonathan, and Charlie is Jonathan's dad.

Great shots, folks. Know you'll look back at the cam to renew your interest when the snow has turned to black slush.

By Carolyn Spoehr (Canyongal) on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 09:20 am:

Randall,
Yes Charlie is Jonathans dad. I sure miss the colors. We don't get much color here on the south rim of the Grand Canyon. It is mostly evergreens. We have been out here almost 5 years. I don't miss all the snow that comes after the colors in the Copper Country, for I am from up there. We get a little snow here but not as much as up there.

By Shelley Trowbridge (Shelleyt36) on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 09:33 am:

Sure seems as if fall is fading fast up there. The colors here in the middle of the lower peninsula are pretty awesome right now; however, the wind is taking the leaves off the trees pretty fast right now! Guess that means lots of leaves to be sucked up by yours truly with the lawn vac in the next few days! Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

What is the route of the Superior Pro rally?

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 10:19 am:

Shelley, that's another advantage to living in the country. After we're through admiring all the beautiful coloring on the ground, a good windy day will send all our leaves across the road to the neighbors yard but mostly into the finished soybean field or into the woods behind that. :o>

By Pete Wilberding (Peshtigopete) on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 11:38 am:

Was up for the rally. Thanks for the pics as one of them settled a question we had.

By Lulubelle/Hancock (Lulubelle) on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 01:06 pm:

Thanks for the slide show of the Pro Rally. We don't get out to see it but our son has been a volunteer for many years for one of the teams. They have gotten to be good friends.

By Mary Geshel (Maryll) on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 06:29 pm:

Mary: Thanks for your help yesterday. Also, I just knew that it was Ashley . Pictures are so beautiful everyday that it is hard to pick my wallpaper. Thanks. Say hello to Greg for me and Glenn Shawn just left today for Iraq. Pray for him and all the others.

Mary

Hey Mary...Nice pictures...How closely do you suppose you are all related in the Upper Peninsula? ...Cold winters up there, huh?

Ashley, a cat named COW? :o) Cute!!

By Ruth (Rdrake) on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 11:09 pm:

I pray for Glen Shawn every day. I hope that the war ends soon and all the boys (yes, that's what they are) can come home. See you at the pool Mary. R. Drake, Traprock

So Mary, what would be the chances of a Pasty Cam rogue's gallery being posted, including photos of yourself & Charlie & other repeat offenders? I know the technology would be beyond me, but I'd love to be looking for familiar faces those rare opportunites I'm up Calumet way. And on a somewhat side note, thanks for the best "first-in-the-morning" site/home page I could ever imagine. So many folks at the library look at my slideshow asking, "Where did those beautiful pictures come from?" and I always point to the lower right, "Pasty Dot Com -- It's the best, eh?" I'm quiet almost all of the time, but really, you folks make my day so often it's like a miracle. And as a side note to Mary Geshel, trust me, a lotta lotta folks will be praying for Glen; another reason this site is #1. Cheers -- Library Rob

Hi Library Rob,
If you look around the galleries and the archives, you're sure to find a picture here and there of Charlie, myself and a number of other Pasty.com folks working behind the scenes.
Now with the registration for posting, there is the capability of adding a photo to your profile, so maybe more folks will utilize that and then you'll be able to sneak a peak at who's talking now! :->
