Good morning everyone. Been up since the wee hours of the morning working...hoping to get some paperwork out of the way, so I can get outside and enjoy today's beautiful weather.

Oh, dear, I guess Gladstone lost a second time in the state
American Legion baseball tournament being held in Blissfield
this weekend. That means they are out. Meanwhile, our local
team, Adrian-Blissfield, also lost in a 11-10 slugfest yesterday.
Now I have to go down to Blissfield to see what the locals can do
against the team that beat Gladstone. If the locals win their
"reward" is having to beat the team which outslugged them
yesterday not just once but twice to win the state title. You can
see how important it is to have a solid pitching staff to handle
that kind of challenge. Would Gladstone ever agree to join with
the Esky team the way the two local rivals, Adrian and Blissfield,
did? Only if they really wanted to have a chance at the state
level, I guess.

Charles In Adrian, I blew through your neck of the woods the other night, when I was taking my daughter to her dad's. We opened up the car windows and enjoyed the fresh scent of the country and the fields.
I see that they are doing major construction on route 52...please tell me they aren't making it a four laner.

I posted this late yesterday, but I thought I would post it one more time to make sure that everybody could read it.

I would like to give a big Shout Out to all of the volunteer Fire fighters that responded to the brush fire north of Gay in the township of Sherman on Thursday night,(Sherman township, Lac La Belle, Allouez and any others I might have missed) also all of the Officers that were on the seen as well as the crew of Mercy Ambulance and last but not least the great guys from the State of Michigan DNR Fire Crew. The fire apparently stated from a lighting strike from the storm on Wednesday night and was called in by someone in Hermits cove ( by the way big thank you to you also) on Thursday night. It burned the eastern part of my land and a lot of my neighbors land to the east of me, with the winds from the south west it missed my camp and has taken a great toll on the land to the east. When I left there this afternoon the fire was still going strong and the DNR crew was going on 24hrs straight of working on it and I would guess they are still on seen as I type this. The work all of you guys do is Great and is Greatly appreciated and I would like to give all of you a Great Big Thank you for what you do!!!

It's noon breaktime at the American Legion baseball tournament
in Blissfield. I saw our local team from Adrian-Blissfield beat a
team from the Benton Harbor area 17-3 this morning. This
afternoon Adrian-Blissfield takes on the defending state champs
from Midland who beat Adrian-Blissfield 11-10 yesterday. I had
a chance to talk to some Midland parents/fans this morning
about the Gladstone team. They said it was a typical U.P. team:
well-coached, tough, solid kids who know and play the
fundamentals. It turns out Gladstone won one of their games
yesterday too -- against Troy. Not bad at all! (Nice note from
Sur5er. Thanks! As for expressways coming to our county, not
too likely, I'd say.)

By Charles in Adrian (Charlesinadrian) on Saturday, August 6, 2005 - 07:46 pm:

One final baseball note. Midland showed us why it is the
defending state champ . The team was small -- Little League
size almost -- but were those kids tough, smart, opportunistic
and well-coached. The only nice part of the afternoon was
discovering the strong U.P. connection of the parents of the
Adrian-Blissfield team's leading pitcher. The father had to admit
we had more deer in Lenawee than Marquette County ever saw,
and they tasted better, too, being corn-fed as they are, but it
didn't matter. Those deer breathed U.P. air, and so they had to
be better. I guess that makes sense, eh?

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Saturday, August 6, 2005 - 09:15 pm:

Charles In Adrian,
Yep, I will second that vote, that there are more deer in Adrian than in Marquette. One thing that I hate about driving down 52 into Adrian at night, is the possibility of a deer crossing into my path. Brights on...eyes shifting constantly from side to side/farmer's field to farmer's field...hoping and praying that you won't hit a deer. ;)

Hi to my pasty. net friends. Just came home from West Palm Florida. Sure is beautiful there, but nothing can compare to the good old Copper Country!!! Just went swimming down Calumet Township park. Oh the fresh clean cool water sure felt good. Made me feel normal again after sweating really bad down Florida. GLAD TO BE HOME.
