I saw a chance to be the first post, and thought I'd jump on it. I'll be back in the Copper Country next week! I can't wait.
First Post

A follow-up to yesterday's conversation about the movie:

Camwatchers may recall back in April when Edie and I spent the weekend on Mackinac Island, I mentioned that we watched Somewhere in Time while we were there. In our room, over the Grand Hotel's wireless Internet connection, were ordered and downloaded the music CD from the movie, by composer John Barry, who did Dances With Wolves, Out of Africa, a bunch of James Bond movies, Born Free, and much more in his prolific career. We think the music is one of the major aspects of the movie's appeal.

By the way, JAD in Oskar, email me that 1948 photo, and we'll share it on Sunday Shoebox Memories.

Just a sidenote about Pasty Central. Ten years ago this month we published our first Internet page: the Snow Thermometer on US 41. Our longest sponsor, The Chippewa Motel, is still listed on that page. If you're in Chassell this weekend for the Strawberry Festival, stop in at the Chippewa and thank Al Kotila for a decade of support for this website. Then go across the street to the Einerlei and give our regards to the Leonards and staff for their long-time support of the Pasty Cam, too! We appreciate all of the sponsors who make it possible for our staff to keep doing what we love to do, bringing you a 'glimpse of life in the U.P.'

I'm still wondering whether or not they caught the fleeing and eluding suspect who got away from the officers in Eagle River this week. Does anyone know?

By wrs mi on Friday, July 8, 2005 - 01:30 pm:

anon:
You can go to {
http://TheWolf.com/} and keep track of the runaway through their "Local News". They have an update today. No they haven't captured him yet, but last seen in the Houghton-Hancock area.

For the escapee, YOU CAN RUN BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE FOREVER!!! Turn your self in and face the music. You caused it!!!!!

Where's maija? I miss her comments. Maybe

nice.

By sur5er on Friday, July 8, 2005 - 04:59 pm:

Kosk, We must be on the same ESP paths today...I was wondering the same thing about Maija. She's probably in da UP living on pasties and Ambassador pizza :)

By Beverly, San Jose on Friday, July 8, 2005 - 05:29 pm:

To me and anon and wrs mi: you are talking about a runaway fugitive? What did he/she do?

By Carole on Friday, July 8, 2005 - 06:45 pm:

I also have been wondering what happened to Maija. Noticed she has not posted lately. Hope everything is ok with her.

By me on Friday, July 8, 2005 - 07:40 pm:

He was driving with a suspened licence to begin with. He was in a high speed chase with the police going over 100 miles per hour down 41. Crashed his car, left his passenger in vehicle with no concern for his friend, ran into the bushes. Police caught him brought him to jail. Tuesday when he was being led to court from his cell. He bolted from the police and ran out. This kid is only17 or18 years old. He messed up his whole life for not being resposible. He could straighten him self out by turning him self in. I just hope someone who reads this will tell him it's never to late to turn your life around.

By pasty cam reader on Friday, July 8, 2005 - 08:20 pm:

I guess the kid is a chip off the old block.
Father was in trouble with the law as well.

For one brief shining moment==Camelot, aka
the U.P. Dropping my dad off at the cottage
tomorrow. Toronto to Ishpeming. Back on
Sunday. Still, lake trout and a sauna await
me. My daughter says there are already
blueberries to be picked. I get to stay for most
of August but this short trip will whet my
whistle.

By sur5er on Friday, July 8, 2005 - 11:27 pm:

Kosk, Have a safe trip home.
