Another day, another glimpse of life in the U.P... Joyce Tormala aptly titled this photo: "Go ahead... make my day!". It fits this little feline just perfectly, since I don't know about you, but I'd be afraid to set foot in this building for fear of losing a limb or at least a toe or two! Signs such as this one in Toivola, remind me of something my Grandpa used to tell us when we'd lock our doors... "That only keeps the honest people out!" Guess he was right, but locking the door or posting a No Trespassing sign, just makes you feel better when you're not there to watch over things yourself. Then again you can always get yourself a watch cat like this one!

I taught I saw a puddy tat! Perhaps it is Sylvester!
Rise and shine!

My Elmo kitty... the UP is heaven.......

By Selma on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 - 07:48 am:

I knew as soon as I saw this picture that it belonged to Joyce. It just has that 'feeling about it'. I wonder if this is her cat with the extra toes.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 - 08:15 am:

Have we seen this kitty before? I bet he/she is pretty busy these days without snow to hamper its business. Looks like a great cat to have around.

By JOHN AND ANNE KENTUCKY on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 - 08:23 am:

We see that the no HUNTING part of sign is painted over, maybe by the cat in regards to the mice? This cat does not seem pleased to have any visitors.

By Sarah, Central WI on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 - 08:31 am:

Peek-a-Boo, I see you...

By Dave, Cairo on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 - 08:38 am:

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww, I'm returning from Cairo tomorrow after an eight week visit. Not even going to stop by the office, just home and then to the UP for vacation. :-)

By maijaMI on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 - 08:53 am:

It's about time a cat picture was posted!

By danbury on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 - 10:14 am:

Ah. Seems like Bigfoot's back!

By Steph on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 - 12:35 pm:

It's TOE!! hehehe cute!

By Helen on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 - 12:48 pm:

She is guarding her territory in the barn!!Great picture of a cute kitten! Probably a great mouser at that!

By Brent in hot, hazy, humid UPstate NY on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 - 01:01 pm:

That's a great shot. Cats can be a little "finicky" about being photographed.

Does anyone know if Sgt. Nate is still around the UP or has he gone back to duty? I'm just curious if he has any more pics of his time in Afghanistan.

On another veteran related note: I'm wondering if any communities in the UP have an organized "Welcoming Committee" like we have here in Rochester, NY? Here's our groups website:

By Selma on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 - 01:04 pm:

Brent, the last I heard Sgt. Nate was in Marquette. Maybe Joyce can update us on his whereabouts, he is her nephew.

By Joyce Tormala on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 - 05:37 pm:

Aww,don't let this kitty's 'bad boy'expression fool you. He is friendly to a fault! I guess he had to wear a macho expression to suit his surroundings and to satisfy me so I'd get off his case and let him prowl in peace.
At first glance, when his only visible features were his feet,I knew he belonged here. He has the run of the house and has trained us to cater to his every whim, but when outdoors he is THE MAN and his castle is the 'raggedy barn'.
Thanks for the post and the entertaining comments!
I will hunt for Sgt. Nate and send him to the keyboard.

By SGT Nate, Michigan on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 - 08:06 pm:

Well, Joyce did hunt me down and let me know that the Pasty.com fans were wondering where I am. I am back in the Yoop, living in Toivola for a short time. I have just updated my gallery. I am only putting Yooper pic right now, I have a lot of Afghanistan pics to go thru, but that will be at a later time. Let me tell you all this, it is awesome to be back in the States, and the U.P.! Take care!

A trained "attack cat"........brings tears to my old eyes...dogs have masters...cats have staff...

By Cindy--Cent. Heights on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 - 11:17 pm:

Looks like my cat Clohie. She's a good watch cat. And she growls like a dog when someone strange to her comes around. Even my dog Rudy backs away from her. Got both from the Humane Society. Wonderful pets. I think they both know I saved there lives and adopted them. Forever grateful and loving animals. Sure am glad I have them.

By sur5er on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 - 01:32 am:

Cindy--Cent. Heights, I agree with you :) Animals have a way of knowing and being so appreciative of those who save them. We rescued our dog Abbi (AKA:Da Baby), and I am amazed at how grateful she is. Best pet I have ever had the pleasure of adopting into our family.

By WHT - Wisconsin on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 - 03:33 am:

2000 yrs ago, they worshiped cats as Gods!
They haven't forgotten that yet!
Our last 3 pets came from the Humane Society.
Wonderful companions!

By Pete Wi on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 - 10:44 am:

Our two hairballs caught a chipmonk on the deck this morning and brought it into the house before I could get the door closed. It was like a scene from "Christmas Vacation".

By Stuart Crewdson (Stuyooper) on Wednesday, July 27, 2005 - 06:30 pm:

Is that same the cat back from the photo in April-28-05

By J.T. Toivola (Joyce) on Thursday, July 28, 2005 - 12:20 am:

Yes. We adopted this cat in December. He is 9 months old now and is a very jolly good fellow. Our dog claimed ownership immediately and they have been inseparable since.
