Good morning, still feeling the effects of Arlene here in the Keys this AM. To Curious,my home is here in the Keys and, yes,it's a great place to be! But I love the UP,in particular the Keweenaw. I think it has it's own very special beauty(2nd to none).I think of the Keys and the Keweenaw as being opposite sides of the same coin. Have a wonderful weekend.

Erica, we were in the keys for the first time this spring. Lovely, but I will share your thoughts that both the Keys and the Keweenaw have there own individual beauty and attraction. How bad was Arlene?

By erica florida keys on Friday, June 10, 2005 - 12:10 pm:

LZ,Arlene is sending us some moderate to heavy rain showers, all of which we need So far,Arlene poses no problem here. I"m glad you enjoyed your visit to the Keys and I hope you'll visit again

Cindy: Could this be the answer to the 4AM sirens? From today's Daily Mining Gazette:
Faulty electrical system blamed for fire call

By JANE NORDBERG, Gazette Writer

CALUMET - Fire officials remain uncertain why a Calumet substance abuse treatment facility is emitting an unusual electrical odor.

Calumet village volunteer firefighters responded to a 911 call at 4:18 a.m. from staff at Phoenix House, a residential treatment facility located at 422 Pine St.
The facility is home to seven residents who notified staff of a "smoky smell," a coordinator said.

Following a sweep of the three-story structure, the cause of the smell had yet to be identified, said Fire Chief Joe Ellenich, whose firefighters used axes and other equipment to open an attic door that was reportedly nailed shut.

"First we smelled it, then we didn't, and after some time you wonder if you're really smelling it," Ellenich said. "We were pretty sure it was coming from the attic until we got up there and there was no trace of it."

Although the smell was stronger on the east wall, particularly outside, Ellenich could offer no definitive answers and requested the staff in charge to seek professional advice as soon as possible.

"I would say it's a faulty electrical box somewhere, but I can't say where," chief Ellenich told Phoenix House staff shortly before leaving the scene at 4:45 a.m. "I believe it's safe for everyone to go back in, but I would recommend you call an electrician stat." Officer Beth Oja of the Calumet Village Police Department assisted at the scene

Keeping watch here in Pensacola waiting for TS Arlene. No effects as yet, still sunny here. Hoping it remains a tropical storm...

Thanks Debbie, I'm glad it wasn't a fire. The funny thing is my parents live near Phoenix House and they didn't hear the sirens. Just told my ma about the news article. And now she said she can smell burning wires. I told her "delayed reaction".
