Looking for old pictures that included December snowfall, I ran across this one on Copper Country Reflections. Although the caption says 1900-1905, a quick check on Keweenaw Savings Bank shows its date of organizing as January 1907. If you know the Keweenaw, you'll find some familiar names among their Board of Directors.

We drive right past this spot on the way from Eagle River to Calumet. Next time I'll try to find the same view angle for another "then" and "now" comparison.

By the way, all of the pasties we can possibly bake and ship from now until Christmas have been snapped up by pasty lovers all over the U.S. Sorry if you missed out on a pre-Christmas order. And if you're looking for a gift to have before the 25th, consider downloading a Pasty Central Gift Certificate. Your grateful recipient will then be able to order at their convenience in the New Year.

Thanks for stopping by Pasty Central! Have a good week :o)

That's an impressive Church in the picture.

I like when you show the old photos, the photgraphy was great for that era. Keep up the good work.

Glad you're back, Charlie. I love this picture....even with the snow, it gives out a warm, fuzzy feeling! Glad I got my Pasty order in when I did, they arrived Thurs. Sorry y'all, I'm not 'sharing'.;D

I love this picture! I'm especially drawn to the horse and sleigh!

Love this old picture!! I,too, like the church AND the horse and carriage. Really makes you think about how rough those people really had it. We sure have no reason to complain when it gets cold, that's for sure.

Thanks, Charlie. I had a hard time getting pasty to come up for me this morning, but it was worth the wait!

I really love this photo also. I will be on the look out for the "Now and Then" version. Where exactly is this? Is the church still standing? It's beautiful and I would have thought that I would have noticed it, if it is.

This sounds strange, but the first person I thought of was Billy the Kid and I wondered if this bank was ever robbed. The Keweenaw Kid perhaps?

By Hilarie Alwine (Halwine) on Sunday, December 11, 2011 - 06:57 pm:

The bank looks so modest compared to now. Banks are usually the nicest buildings in every town now and very high tech. Great to see a church looking in better shape than a bank!

Or maybe robbed by the "Hole in the Wall Gang", featuring Butch Cassidy and the Sun-L'Anse Kid.

Hi Howard said he went to this bank and fought the fire with Ahmeek Fire Dept at the Catholic church. Also he thinks(remember) the first Slims Cafe was next to the Legion bldg. in the background. Any additions or substractions appreciated. He now says the restaurant was named Scotties before Slims.
