In which U.P. town did we find Smokey in the snow on this day a few years back?

Ahh....cheap generic coffee doesn't kick in like the name brands!

By Richard J. (Dick_fl) on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - 08:11 am:

Pat & Glenda, if it is any consolation I clearly
read the question as year instead of "U.P. town".
Just goes to show me that my eyes and mind seem to
be getting older. ;-) Next thing I know "they"
(whoever "they" are) will be shutting the lid and
saying "so long" to me and I will be thinking "Hey,
I'm not ready yet."

Smokey was out doing his thing in Brule and Port Wing Wisconsin over the past weekend. He was gracious enough to let our Scottish Terriers pose with him for a few pictures.

Oh and thanks for the link. It is great to see
George's Eagle Harbor Web back!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - 08:24 am:

Good Morning. This is a fantastic collection of pictures today! It has some real standouts in it. We had a nice fall weekend and Monday. It's too bad it couldn't last! But, alas, it is autumn.

By Donna (Donna) on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - 09:13 am:

Janie...post that! I'd love to see the pups with the bear!

Did anyone see the Northern Lights last night? I just read in the paper that they were seen way down here in GA last night. I'm so sorry that I didn't remember to go out and look for them.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - 09:53 am:

Oh, I would've loved to have see them, Eugenia....if they were seen in GA, surely they could be seen in southern OH. I remember once when I was a small tyke, hearing my mama and daddy getting excited about seeing them in Nashville, but I was afraid to go outside and look, for fear of what I'd see. (duh) I thought there were BIG lights in the sky and I didn't want to see 'em. My husband and I did see them once when living in ND.

Grama T's makes a good pasty too.

By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - 10:37 am:

My parents woke me up to see the Northern Lights! I must have been 4 or 5, maybe 6, and I remember that beautiful rosy sky. So glad they woke me up for that.

Uncle Chuck...It is called Iron City Pasties now. I remember it as Red Onion Pasties.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - 01:58 pm:

Donna, I'm not sure how to post that picture here...as for Facebook, it's there. It's similar to the Smokey as in today's 2002 picture. If it was a live Smokey, he might have been a terrorized by our 2 Terriers. Not really, Brimley & Brody are too well mannered. :)

By Steve Haagen (Radsrh) on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - 02:52 pm:

Eugenia I did get to see them in Eagle River, WI. Best show I have seen lots of Reds, Greens and orange

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - 03:34 pm:

Great pics, especially the water drops on the maple leaf. R.I.P., Dan.

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - 04:20 pm:

Just got a small glimpse of the Northern Lights last night, too many clouds. :(

Looks like the people down south had a better show;

Steve, so glad you saw the Northern Lights -- they must have really been spectacular!!! I will really try to look tonight! (Clear skies, too -- yay!)

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - 05:57 pm:

Eugenia, I guess at that early age (4-6), you were more adventuresome than I was....I was one of those kids who was afraid of her shadow.:>

By Donna (Donna) on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - 09:14 pm:

Thanks Janie!

I got to see the lights here...the first time I have seen them since I moved here in 2003...and OH MY GOD...how awesome! Reds, greens, straight up above me...wow...I live in a 4 apt building, all apts on ground level...one neighbor was home, so I went and banged on his door and made him come out...he still is amazed and thankful for the prompt! Just couldn't get a pic to save my soul..but wow...fabulous!!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - 09:23 pm:

My daughter and son-in-law sent me wonderful photos of the
Northern Lights last night from their cell phones. Wish I could have
been there. The last time I saw them in late October/early
November was when we were UP for my Grandma's funeral in 1991.
We figured the Northern Lights and stars sang in her honor that
night. My All Saint's Day birthday son figured those lights were for
him too. I think they were.
