The end of September, along with the end of summer, brings us to our monthly feature where we remember and honor the memory of those that have passed on before us, including:

Irene Beaudoin
Rose Codere
Elmina Gilreath
James "Jimmy" Gregoire
Paul Hendrickson
Ruth Lamppa
Jean Mikkola-Miller
Patrick Thornton
Daniel Wissman
Servicemen and women who have given their all

If you have someone you'd like to hold in memory on these pages, feel free to post a message.

Thank you to Bob Gilreath, who supplied us with the beautiful sunrise over the Portage, here today. It is specially dedicated to the memory of his Grandma Elmina, who recently passed away. Thoughts of sympathy to Bob and everyone else who has lost someone this month.

Just to add a note about Paul Hendrickson... When Pasty Central acquired The Hut in 2005, Paul contacted me, excited about a new beginning for his 'baby' in Kearsarge. He had conceived the plans for this landmark in the late 40's while recuperating from injuries while serving in Europe. After a rocky start in 2006, we finally restored the Hut to full service. These days with John Gervais at the helm, filling up the parking lot just about every day, Paul Hendrickson was happy to see his life's work restored to its former vitality. As you may know, our USDA inspected pasty baking kitchen is also behind the Hut, and Pasty.NET's network center is in the lower level. So what Paul started back in the '50s has grown into something beyond what any of us had imagined. We appreciated Paul's encouragement along this journey, and he will be missed.

I'm thinking of some close acquaintances who lost their mom's this week. Am also thinking about a close friend of mine who is sitting with her brother right now, as he is dying from cancer. I pray for them every day.

Totally wonderful sunrise this morning. Thanks Bob, and I'm so sorry for your loss!!

Remembering my good friend Mike Altman who died of heart failure last night trying to clear his road of downed trees. Sad news on the occasion of my son's 25th birthday, whom he also befriended so readily.

Remembering my precious husband who passed from us last May....at this time in years past we would've been preparing for our annual first-week-in-October vacation to Michigan. I miss you terribly, Frank Richard Waggoner!
Steve, so sad about your friend, Mike, last night. What a terrible sudden loss.

The Hut reference brings back a fond memory from
the 80s.

I was at Tech in 80s and we stumbled upon the HUT
one day while CCCing. That is Copper Country
Cruising. Me and a fellow student used to spend
idle time just driving around checking the sites.
Many fond life experiences occurred exploring the
area and meeting the fine people who live there.

Now we had very little money but were hungry and
saw the hut and stopped in. When we got there I
was sure we had made a mistake. Seeing the
waterfall in dining area, the luxurious waiting
area, and finely dress staff I was sure we were
not going to be able to afford it!

But we waited for a table anyway figuring we could
split a menu item. Once seated I grabbed the menu
and was amazed to see how inexpensive and normal
the food was. I recall getting a cheeseburger and
fries and both of us running up a total bill of
only 10 bucks. It was an amazing place and
hopefully still is - I have not been there since
1986!

Still missing my Mom, Dolores A. Schwartz-12/20/1920-9/3/1978. My cousin Donnie Hattala-4/26/1965-9/28/1970. Both gone way to soon. We miss you "Hot Rod".

By Donna (Donna) on Friday, September 30, 2011 - 02:15 pm:

My cousin asked me to add some names for him. Toney Taylor and Jim Gregorie...

Jim was certainly an angel on this side....he sure has to have a heckuva homecoming on the other side!

Read the names and ages of the KIA's...breaks my heart each month.

Be well everyone.

By Therese (Therese) on Friday, September 30, 2011 - 06:41 pm:

Today I've been thinking of Jim Carson,
my Dad, who died on this date in 1998.
He would have spent today harvesting the
last tomatoes and the winter squash. Miss
you, Dad!

The average age of of the service people that gave the ultimate sacrafice is only 26.6 years old. Pray that this conflict ends SOON.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Friday, September 30, 2011 - 11:02 pm:

Our son, Matthew, was 26.10 yrs. old when he died a year ago last
September. There was nothing average about him, at least not to
our family. Always loved and remembered in our hearts.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, September 30, 2011 - 11:27 pm:

That's right, I'd like to remember Kosk's son, Matt, this month also. I was looking at pictures of his gravesite and wishing I had met him. If he was anything like his mom, I'm sure he was a wonderful young man. I'm sure he's remembered by many.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Saturday, October 1, 2011 - 01:58 pm:

Much appreciated, Deb.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, October 1, 2011 - 06:36 pm:

Any time, Kosk!! I so enjoyed meeting you. If your son was anything like you, I'm sure he was well loved!!

Just got back in Detroit last night from Dad's memorial service on September 30th. Would have been his 81st birthday that day. We lost him on August 12. Rest in peace Dad and enjoy that beer.
