I didn't know that movie was made in Michigamme!! How cool is that? I love Jimmy Stewart!!

More nice pictures today. I remember asking last year where Maple Grove was. Loved the tubes sitting at the edge of the water in Brita's picture. And those lilies were gorgeous at Still Waters. I have some beautiful ones in my yard right now.

Have a great day everybody!

The filming got underway in 1957, and was filmed in Marquette and Big Bay. They used the Mt. Shasta bar in Michigamme also. I graduated from Northern in January 1958 and it was well underway then.

You didn't know that Deb? You should go in Mt. Shasta sometime and look at the pictures. The movie was filmed all over Marquette Co. It was made from a novel written by John Voelker, a native of Ishpeming who became a Michigan Supreme Court Justice. He wrote several books about fishing under the pen name of Robert Traver. My friend Judy met many of the celebs when they were filming it at the courthouse in Marquette.

I'm wondering how Dr. Nat and the Capt's trip is going. They haven't headed for home because of bad weather down there? Boy we're getting socked! Not far up the road at Galena they got 14" of rain in 24 hours. 10 to 12" some places in our area. Last week I couldn't pull some weeds out btw. pavers in my patio cuz it was like cement! Lots of flash floods esp. along The River. Where's those doubters about climate changes!?

By Norma in Midland (Normainmidland) on Thursday, July 28, 2011 - 01:09 pm:

OH the Victoria Dam! One of my dad's (Grandpa Norm's) favorite places! Makes me miss the UP so bad! Also we are celebrating our 33rd wedding anniversary today and we are usually at Little Betsy for the celebration. :( Not this year. Thanks for pictures, great memories!

Kay...Dubuque and Galena really got socked didn't they? What a mess, Prayers to all there!

The doubt isn't about climate change, it's about "MANMADE" climate change.......

Not a chance, Kay!! So far our trip has been great; plenty of wine tasting and geology here in Northern Lower. We have been watching Don closely and it looks like it will hit Corpus as a tropical storm, so we will be in Houghton Saturday night. Good thing too; it seems we are very popular with all Pasty folks looking at the dinner dates scheduled..... ;-)

Yep, FJL, man is his own worst enemy. Climate change has been caused by us.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, July 28, 2011 - 08:48 pm:

No, Laurie. I didn't know that and I love Jimmy Stewart movies. Shenandoah is one of my favorites!! I will have to go in there some time!!

What night are we getting together Capt? Not the 8th because that's my b'day and I may have to go to The Hut for a free birthday dinner:)

Then by all means, please read the Global Warming thread on the Various Topics board before making such broad statements....

I'm with you Deb, Jimmy Stewart is my all-time favorite actor, and Shenandoah is one of my favorite movies. But i had never heard of "Anatomy" when i was at Northern. One time they showed it in one of the lecture halls and it was PACKED. We couldn't figure out why! And all the actors looked so YOUNG, and why was it in B&W?!! LOL!

Later a friend told us every time they showed the movie the folks from the area who were 'extras' turned out to see it. How cool it would have been to be there when they were filming it!
