Good Morning. All Calumet and other Keweenaw phone numbers changed on May 15, 1966.

Good morning!! LOVE the finch picture!!

Darn Wings lost game 7. Well, at least they made a series out of it. Might as well cheer on the Lightning now. Stevie Y's the GM, I believe!!

Have a great day everybody!

I hear many people say about their area "wait a day and the weather will change completely". Well here goes for NW Illinois. Last weekend we had humidity with 93 degrees. This weekend it's topping out in high 40's. Yoiks!

By Gary W. Long (Gary_in_co) on Friday, May 13, 2011 - 08:40 am:

Here in Colorado, you only have to wait 10 minutes for the weather to change completely. I've seen sunshine, rain, snow, hail, windy, and calm all within that 10 minute period.

I do not think the Red Wings played as hard to win game 7 as they did the three to get them to game 7...They played hard in games 4, 5, and 6. BUT!!!! Lets give them a big 'Thank You' for taking it this far.;O) They did great.

Great pics. Regarding the 1966 phone book, I'll bet a lot of the numbers listed were 2 letters followed by 5 numbers.

Nope, nary a one! They were in fact all 7-digit numbers, like Keweenaw County (in 1966): 289-XXXX, Calumet (in 1966): 337-XXXX. Also Lake Linden (in 1961): 296-XXXX and Chassell (also in 1961): 523-XXXX, and finally Houghton/Hancock (in 1962) 482-XXXX, etc.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Friday, May 13, 2011 - 04:32 pm:

Interesting! Must be some places the changeover to 7 numbers occurred earlier than in others.

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Friday, May 13, 2011 - 05:15 pm:

Speaking of numbers; our temps here in Ontonagon have really cooled off. The fire alert is now to low, which is really good. I feel sorry for the peepers tonight, it's going to be a cold one.
Looks like the medical Marijuana is finally being accepted UP here. About time. It has helped my glaucoma for years. Sorry, if you don't agree with this but it's totally natural. Some of you would not like it but, it actually makes you become friendly. That's why I love the UP.

Hollidays...I always felt that if I ever got to a medical situation where I needed something for pain beyond what could be offered by regular purposes, I'd go where it was avaliable. One way or the other.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, May 13, 2011 - 09:11 pm:

You are so right mickill!! My hubby and I were talking about that tonight. If they'd only played as hard as they did in the games leading up to game 7, they probably would have advanced.

By Greta Jones (Urbanescapees) on Friday, May 13, 2011 - 09:24 pm:

Amazing how the size of satellite dishes have changed since 2000!!! Now, what does one do with these obsolete monsters? Must be a way to recycle them. LOL

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Friday, May 13, 2011 - 09:40 pm:

Greta you could make one whopping birdbath out of it. I threatened to do it years ago with ours. How about a large plant pot?

Kay, great idea!!! My birdbaths go dry so quickly, that a huge on like this wouldn't have to be filled so often!! And what a grand planter that could make!! If everyone with one of those dinosaurs in their yard did this, we could help beautify the neighborhood.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Friday, May 13, 2011 - 11:28 pm:

A friend of ours has made her big dish into a gazebo. They turned it like a bowl upside down on conduit pipe legs and painted the whole thing black. Looks really nice. There are some other decorations around it, too. I put the hummie feeder up yesterday after noon and before supper time the little hummies were eating out of it. They seem to come back on the same day each year. No, this isn't Capistrano, it's Cornell. :o)

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, May 13, 2011 - 11:44 pm:

A birdbath.... what, are we expecting California Condors or something??? :-P

Personally, I would use one as a saucer sled in the winter for you and 50 of your best friends to come sleding, spinning, and screaming down the hill!!
