Icy Edge is interesting, like a scene from an animated movie.

Like the City of Bangor in today's Day in History, but 71 years earlier in 1855, another vessel hit the rocks on the Keweenaw the night of November 30. Captain Daniel Beaser had charge of the schooner Seaman on an emergency mission from Ontonagon to Copper Harbor to bring back that town's and the surrounding mine's winter supplies which had been abandoned there due to a brutal late November storm. Other vessels which were supposed to deliver these supplies all the way to Ontonagon, instead dropped them off at Copper Harbor and headed back down the lake, leaving Ontonagon in a potentially critical situation for the upcoming winter. The Seaman out of Cleveland, then under the command of a Captain Andrews, was still tied up in the harbor at Ontonagon. The concerned citizens of Ontonagon tried to hire Andrews to sail her to Copper Harbor to retrieve the village's badly needed supplies. The captain flatly refused to take the vessel out on the lake any more that season. In desperation some of the town's business leader pooled their resources to buy the ship from her captain and gave command to local resident, and former seafarer, Daniel Beaser. Beaser sailed the ship out of Ontonagon on the night of November 30, while Andrews headed back home to Cleveland, overland through the deep snow. Ironically, that very same night Copper Harbor lighthouse keeper Beedon decided to turn out the lights for the season, thinking navigation was surely closed for the season. As the Seaman attempted to make entry into Copper Harbor shortly after midnight, with no lights to guide her, she struck the rocks hard. There she remained iced in until the following spring when she was able to be lifted off. It musst have been a tough winter for the people of Ontonagon for whom the most of the supplies were unable to be delivered - despite their efforts to even have a winter road built to Copper Harbor. But survive they did. Beaser went on to commanded the Seaman for a number of seasons thereafter, hauling mostly copper from Minesota and other Ontonagon County mines to the lower lakes.

For those of you that objected to my post yesterday, regarding losing our loved ones. I apologize but I feel that you didn't understand my post.
I was not bummed by Pasty Cam's end of the month tribute to the deceased, which I think is a great tribute to our lost loved ones. I was depressed over being reminded.
Sorry if I offended anyone. Didn't mean to.
