Even though winter is upon us here in the U.P., the freighters are still sailing on Lake Superior, with just under a month left before the Soo Locks close down for the winter months. Danielle Adams was in Marquette during the wee hours of the morning and ventured down to the Harbor there to take a look at the comings and goings. Pretty neat to see these large vessels at the dock in the dark, with the sun just starting to brighten the skies and the lights reflecting off the water like that. Almost looks like it's a sheet of ice it's so shiny. Her next shot is the clincher, though, with the sunrise blazing across the sky and the freighter looking like a silhouette of itself, rather than the real thing. Nice captures, Danielle!

Absolutely breathtaking! What a great way to start my morning. Thanks!

Great photos, wish I was in Marquette right now, I miss being U.P. there!

Nice work Danielle! Often those wee hours in the morning are the best part of the day!

Always great to see pictures of my adotped home. Nice shots ~ thanks!

Merry Christmas everyone!

I wish we were there right now. The last time we were in
Marquette there was a snow storm so thick that we could
barely see the freighter at the dock. It was beautiful.
Looking forward to our next trip north.

Sunrise and sunset are my favorite times to sky watch and these are magnificant reasons why.Wish I had seen something like that when I was there last fall. Gotta go back!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Friday, December 17, 2010 - 10:22 am:

I don't think a tug/barge is as pretty as a lakeboat/ship, but I don't think they're "ugly"....just terribly scary with the pilothouse SO high and splindly-looking. Rowdy, does that bother your son?

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Friday, December 17, 2010 - 12:48 pm:

No,he likes tugs. The only thing that bothers anyone is climbing the stairs to the top. I had a very hard time with the last 15 stairs. Legs turned to logs. Almost didn't make it. Good cardio workout.

The barge section looks like E.T. "phone home."

With all the excitement yesterday of the Music Program, I think I forgot to vote!! Oh no, we are back up to #18. See what difference one vote can make?

http://www.refresheverything.com/saveabeautiful110yroldtheatre

You can also vote on your cell phone. Text the code number 104720 to the number 73774. It seems wrong that we can actually vote twice, but it is true. Facebook too, for those who are into that.

Please take the time to vote. The Calumet Theatre receives a quarter million with no effort from us.
