Jeremy Outinen has what some people would call a dream job. He gets to work outdoors and on many of his assignments, has a view like most folks don't ever get the chance to see, since he's up on the rooftops around the Houghton/Hancock area. His photos today give us a glimpse into his work day, along with the info he sent me about what he's doing up on the rooftops. Jeremy works for the Telecom/Information Services department over at Michigan Technological University, wiring new jacks for phone and Internet at Tech. They also troubleshoot jobs to figure out what has gone wrong with the communication connections. When I asked him about being up on top of the Citizens Bank in Hancock (formerly D&N), he said they were installing conduit, going to a millimeter link which transmits/receives phone and Internet signals through MTU. You have to admit, from up there you have quite the birds eye view of the area. Jeremy's last photo was taken on top of the former UPPCO Building in Houghton. The job up there was to make some measurements for a rough estimate of how much wire would be needed to put in a new webcam. So there you have it folks, all in the day of a roof top Telecom/Information Services worker. Thanks, Jeremy! :->

Love the last photo...blue sky, blue water and green trees everywhere. Summertime is great.

Makes me think of the 1962 hit by the Drifters, "Up on the Roof".

Interesting shots!

So what's going on in the second picture with the tables all set up?

By Dennis Kemper (Denkem) on Thursday, July 22, 2010 - 08:47 am:

The tables are set up where they have the Tori Farmers Market every Wednesday and Saturday.

Beautiful views! The street looks like a jigsaw puzzle skillfully put together. Wonder if it's as bumpy as it looks!

Ah ha! So based on Dennis' info we know that shot was taken either on a Wednesday or Saturday!

Thanks Dennis!

Nice pictures of bird's eye views. Looked like lovely weather. I'll bet his job gets really fun in the winter if he has to go up on rooftops to troubleshoot problems. I don't normally consider myself to be afraid of heights, but that straight down shot got me a little dizzy!

By GG (Gives) on Thursday, July 22, 2010 - 04:33 pm:

The tables are actually out from the Canal Run this past Saturday. When they have the Tori Market, those tables are out under a tent on the other side of the lawn next to the Finish/American Heritage Center.

I think I have to get a outside job like Jeremy. I work in the IT department at Bay College. The first photo show the view from where I have been working the week, and the other is what you see of me.

I enjoyed the picture of Quincy Street, but I would like to see one from the other direction.
I lived at 205 Quincy Street in one of Mr. Joffee's apartments for five years. The buildings bring back many memories for me. Thanks for all the pictures. I look at them each day.
