Charlie...where was Ernie when you needed him the other day?

About ladyslippers......would you really call them "flowers"? I always think of flowers as something delicate and those aren't delicate-looking....but beautiful, none the less.:)

Had word from my brother in law that Ernies Gas station was not a depot at one time. It was built as a gas/repair 1 hoist shop in 1932 by the Berg brothers up in French Gully. I do have pictures of the 1917 built wooden depot in my files that I can email n/c.

It was our pleasure to have met Charlie in person yesterday as he spent much of the evening here checking out, tuning up, & servicing our computer. How's that for long distance service? (well he was actually in the area!) Thanks again Charlie for stopping by! Have a nice trip the rest of the way home!
BTW--Congrats on the new grandchild!

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Thursday, May 20, 2010 - 02:42 pm:

Wow how cool that must of been eh Russ..hope he got your computer running better for you Looking forward to meeting Charlie some day myself, and many others who come this way to visit or live here I have got to know because of Pasty Central. It is so wonderful for me to be back home here in Dollar Bay!
I been up to The Hut for a great Pasty, & in a few hours will be passing by there on route to Mohawk to watch a T-Ball game on this another beautiful day in the Copper Country. I bet my red Ford with TN.license plate is going to want stop in the Hut again.

For those of you who are local or might be in the Keweenaw this weekend, there's a benefit for Houghton County Undersheriff, Roy Britz, at the Houghton County Arena this Saturday, (May 22nd), starting at 6:00 p.m. and going until Midnight. There will be three live bands, a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle with prizes. There will also be refreshments, ranging from beer to pop and food for purchase. All proceeds will go to help Roy and his family with his medical costs. Roy was diagnosed with stage 4 oral cancer and lymphoma cancer and is presently undergoing treatment at Univ. of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor. Tickets for the event are $5.
For more information or if you're interested in volunteering to help out at the event, contact Dan Judnich at the Houghton County Sheriff's Dept.
Come on out and support Roy and his family.

Again one of Dan's pieces just floors me! In my eyes his art is equal to a Monet or an O'Keefe any time. Look at the texture, the subtle colors, the simple drama!!! Whew!
