Good morning! I'm remembering my father, Ben Durocher, who passed away one year ago this December. I can hardly believe it's been a year already. I miss him so much!!!!

Oh yeah, and Great Sand Bay was one of his favorite places in the world, so it's fitting that this sunset is the photo for this month.

In loving memory of Rick, our cousin, who went home to be with his Lord on the 19th.

Rick, you were taken from us way too soon, but we know you are rejoicing with the Lord, free from pain. For that we are so thankful! What a glad reunion that must have been!

In remembrance of John Hiddleson who passed away Dec 22 and Shirley Sisko Harkins who passed away Dec 28th. May they rest in the arms of the Lord.

I remember my best friend and soul mate, my sister Martha DeGraw on December 16, 2009. Also my brother-in-law Ken Haug on December 14, 2009 and my aunt Marion Marks December 18, 2009. Three close family members in 5 days.

I have and always will remember Prof. David Halkola of MTU. He was one of the most understanding people that I have known in the teaching profession. He was missed when he retired from MTU as he is missed by all now.

Remembering my sister in law who passed away on December 18th this year Barbara Diane Trump. She was never married and was loved by all the family. Everyone have a good New Year!

Remembering my brother David Pranger who would have turned 50 today. Cancer took him from us much too soon the day after his 42nd birthday, January 1, 2002. Rest in peace Dave.

My brother Michael Brunk who passed Christmas day 2005. And my daughter Odette's cat Cannibus Rex 1994-2009. He was 15 and her companion and was there for her entire adult life. He was in failing health this past year and she laid him to rest 12/26/09.

Ed and Sophie Kuusisto, Aunt Lyle Pooley, Janet Trasti, Karen Kuusisto, our good buddy Nitz Kumpula, our dear little Annie Kuusisto, our nephew "The Chief" Churchill, our niece Bailey Hartmann and our brother in law and friend Wayne Hartmann. We love and miss you all so much.

My friend's doberman, Greta, a quiet and friendly dog who loved people, and who went to dog heaven this week.

... and of course my mother, Dolores, who died a year ago, and her slightly-younger sister Cleta who followed her two months later. Another grand reunion in heaven with their brother Bill and the rest of the Schneiders, Carsons and Gradys.

If it is the same person, I can remember Tony Bukovich as an outstanding "hardball" pitcher in the 1950s.

I forgot to mention my Father, Commander Julius J. Brunk USCG Ret. who died on this day 1998.

Remembering my mother Elizabeth Mattingly Russell, who would have been 84 this month. She passed away in 2006. Her seven children, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren miss her very much.

My wife's Dad, Mr. Glen E. Bergstrom. Passed on Christmas Day Morning in his sleep. He was 89. So he got to spend Christmas with his wife Alice (both lived in Iron River from 1985 to 2004)and their daughter Karen Nan Bergstrom Vlamis.

hello All, I have a question that I hope someone on here can answer. What are the current conditions in Skanee? I'm assuming we can drive into Skanee--but is the road open as far as McComb Corner? We were planning on a winter camping trip into Sylvania, but logistics are causing us to eye either the Keeweenaw or Huon Mountain area. If we can get our truck as far as McComb Corner then we would be able to have faster access to the Huron River and more time to explore that part of the Hurons. Otherwise I think it adds another 5 miles to the snowshoe and with the amount of time we have for our adventure--it might not be quite enough.

Honoring and remembering Rusty Gates, who passed on this month from lung cancer at the age of 54.

Rusty, an expert fly fisherman, founded the Anglers of the Au Sable in 1987 to protect the River and all the critters around it from various threats. Every year he hosted a Au Sable River clean-up and hauled an incredible amount of stuff from the watery depths.

Emmett Gerard Schwartz joined us at 1:05 A.M. , he weighed in at 9 lb-2.5 oz, and is 21 in long. my nephew and his bride Mike & Beth Schwartz welcome's Emmett in this wonderful world.

In memory of my Dad, Charlie "Bert" Halonen, who passed away December 10, 2009. Reunited with my Mom after 27 years. I will always think of him especially on Christmas Eve, singing the bass part to Silent Night during the Christmas Eve candlelight service. Sleep in heavenly peace.

Oliver Bjorn, 97, of Allouez, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2009, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where he was a resident for the past six years.

We had the privilege of living across the street from Dave and Vi Halkola for three years. Dave was pure class, as a neighbor, friend and honorary Grandfather to our daughters. I remember using my snow blower for the first time. Dave came down his steps and I asked him who did his snow. He said “The man who lived in your house always did my snow.” I plowed and scooped for him for three winters and always had a cup of coffee and good conversation waiting when I got to the top of his stairs. We feel very blessed to have known such a wonderful man.
