Recently, Marsha Galbraith let me know she had added some new photos to her Guest Gallery Album. Her email said that she had set out to photograph some of the more quaint Post Offices around the U.P. Marsha also noted that many of the ones she was looking for, no longer existed. One she did discover still there and operational, was the Rockland Post Office and the bonus was the colored foliage surrounding the building.

Marsha had a surprise find in her quest for P.O. photos, when she came across Post Office Road. Her directions to find this location are: "You take M-38, 26 miles down from Baraga. Google maps says you turn left on old 35 and go about a half mile and Post Office Rd. is there. I'm pretty sure though that the Post Office Road sign was right on M-38." What a neat coincidence that while on her Post Office photographic journey, she'd unintentionally pass by this road to use as a lead-off for her album. Thanks for sharing, Marsha!

Wonderful pictures. Wonderful plan. There are many things we see every day that won't be here the next. Take pictures of everything when you can.

Somewhere, someplace, I remember seeing a book on american post office architecture and how it had changed over the years. Might be something I'll have to look on Amazon for.

I correspond with Paul Petosky in Munising and he has hundreds of pictures of Michigan post offices.

I just returned from the Keweenaw yesterday; while I was there I
photographed the post offices in Copper Harbor and Mohawk, the
latter because my uncle was postmaster there for many years. :)

Small town post offices probably are much less hectic 2 work in. Thanks 4 sharing the pics.

This is off topic, but are there any dog owners in Houghton who would be willing to do a home check for a rescue group? It's just a quick visit to make sure the home is a safe environment for a dog. If you can, please email me at lisa@3beards.net Thanks!

I used to know someone who was postmaster in one of those small post offices up north. I think he said he was the only employee there. That would certainly be a lonely job and probably not too hectic except maybe at Christmas. I can't remember which PO he worked at. It was somewhere in Keweenaw county I believe.

Since this photo shoot has to do with post offices, here's a picture by a Clayton Self. It was taken 1 year ago this month, showing a small town post office, complete with an Autumn-Wintry surrounding:

The post office in Ralph is my favorite. Sorry no photo.

I applied for a transfer to the Keweenaw Post around 1978, they offered me a rural carrier position that entailed delivery to approx 200 year round home and a 200 mile route that required three day per week delivery, if my memory is correct.
